    What does this mean

Agreed, Peck. Earlier in the year I went though by 1957 calm sea 1/2ds and put some on Fleabay with the different 7's, and no interest whatsoever! I remember, as a child, a Mars Bar going from 2d to 3d, thus acquiring the extra dimension of depth......:)

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Surely the fact that he is selling a coin that he does not possess enough rope? You can then ignore all the photo mix-ups, or is he genuinely a confused idiot, and is unknowingly using the picture of a coin that Richard has in his possession to sell another? Is he reading all this?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Yup, a polite query about all such fraudulent listings illicit such a tone in the reply, usually worse. They've hatched a little scheme, think themselves very clever, and when their bluff is called, the ego is sorely bruised and they react.....

    More Pennies

I couldn't afford to spend any more on it....things are tight! When it arrives I'll have a good look at the ding and see if it's a '3'........oh hang on.......damn.......
  5. Remind me- who is the US idiot who heat treats all coins so they have a 'rainbow'?? They sell loads to idiots!

    Ebay's BEST Offerings

If I can't find a coin that arrived in an American grading company's slab, and busted out, I start my search by looking behind the poster on the wall....

    More Pennies

I must sign up too....sounds like there are some good coins on his lists...I couldn't find anything on line. Was the F148 expensive? Pricing this type of rarity must be very difficult....

    Steep slabbing premiums

My friend, who is very wealthy, asked his son what he wanted for his birthday, and his son told him he wanted a cowboy outfit, so my friend bought him Hermes.....

    Missing Waves

Hmm I've been thinking- if the 'grease' did fill a die, how come it always seems to fill the die perfectly flat so an area has no detail? there is no time during a strike for much to happen, and surely some grease will be left on the coin, so it leaves the scene very quickly. If this is the case, considering the numbers minted, a grease spot would change in volume, and the effect on the coins would be very varied, and the coins having a flat blank area would be almost unheard of..... And why is it only the sea that gets 'greasy'?????

    Steep slabbing premiums

That particular mob have had stupid prices for years. I'm not sure this is down to slabbing....greed has more to do with it, I feel.....

    Bu 2021 sovereign

I love the fact that it was intended to be called 'King George 111', but they genuinely believed that Americans would think they had missed the first two films and so they changed the name......

    Bu 2021 sovereign

I've spent the evening with a chisel and a box of After Eights.....

    Missing Waves

1880, right hand side with half of the sea and exergual line missing- grease?
  15. Oh- there was going to be lots of pennies- great pennies, none made in China CHINAH, I'm very knowledgeable about pennies, I'm a great collector, all pennies, but I looked at the Auction list and there are strangely hardly any... I DEMAND A RECOUNT!
  16. Does this mean you lost the price you paid for it?
  17. Exactly. You have to work out whether the sides of the bristles are knocking off deposits that will crumble bit by bit, or the tips are eroding a deposit slowly, therefore requiring a bristle whose material hardness lies between the hardness of the deposit and the metal substrate. That's why brass works so well on bronze, but is a big no no for copper.....
  18. Was the wire brush steel? Brass brushes work wonders, particularly if you choose the correct one as regards the softness....
  19. I always leave the top of a piece of sea bass in a restaurant - I don't believe the old fairy stories, so I don't like crumpled fish skin....
  20. The most pleasing puns are those that are really contrived.....my wife is very impressed with it..... so good to admire the process rather than just the end result......!
  21. Yes, thank you, but no luck- I've saved some for a spring sow. This year was very weird for seed germination.....
