How much extra would you pay for provenance coins?

So well put. -
"How the hell is this worn??" was my initial thought. This is one coin that attracts me. With funds, anyone's collection can be amazing. Spectacular circular pieces of art. All the specimen and proofs in the back of the books have never ever attracted me. If you are rich, you can almost just go and buy them whenever you want. That's not really collecting to me. Not jealousy, just fact. However, the frisson of excitement the first time a collector noticed this must have been amazing. Now I'm jealous. ....what a story this coin could tell, and how many times did it slide across a shop counter right under the nose of an avid penny collector, (as the child in front bought a quarter of acid drops, ) but showing 'tails'........????

Exactly. They seemed to actually prefer all the risks and being under the radar, just to maybe ( 1% chance ) getting more cash... Madness. Ten seconds of thought would have made all this crystal clear.

It's amazing the lack of thought immediately after the digging stopped. They could have had half the value between them, yet would have ended up with less than that, going down the 'clever' route. This is, of course, assuming that the Police don't get interested, and they couldn't have done anything with any money they got because the Taxman will find out. If they'd used their brains, right now they could be heroes, doing lectures at detecting clubs, have helped in the story of this island nation, and they could have done doughnuts outside the tax office in ferraris and the taxman wouldn't have been able to do anything. Instead, they are known as greedy twats, and have nothing to show for it, not even their liberty.... All this type of story does is increase one's resolve to keep doing things properly, and it brings a lump to my wallet.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283678826780?ul_noapp=true the seller says he photographed it in different lighting to show the toning. No reason to disbelieve him- his other auctions look fine. I can only just tell it is the same coin by the edge knocks by the '3'. Just shows what can happen....

WHat A Difference Lighting Can Make
blakeyboy replied to UPINSMOKE's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
By a strange coincidence, I put up a post in 'Free for All' about this- a 1953 penny, the last picture looking like a proof, all the others looking a bit ragged. Seller insists it's the same coin. So tricky, hence the common use of the 'better in the hand' phrase.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283678826780?ul_noapp=true -

My late father liked jays- and loved pointing out that it's Latin name Garrulus Glandarius rather describes it. ( He also liked the name of the Wren, describing in secretive skulking movements: Troglodytes Troglodytes....) Interestingly, on a bird theme, in 1946 Peter Adolph patented a new table football game. He was not allowed to use the trade name 'Hobby' that he wanted, so he used that bird's Latin Name: Falco Subbuteo. -

QUEEN ANNE 1702 - 1714 SHILLING RARE SOLID Silver COIN. In amazing condition considering its so old, kept in a hard plastic wallet for many years now. For 99% of it's existence, I'll warrant! How many early 18th Century plastic coin wallets are still extant, I wonder.....

Hence the Scottish pacts with France throughout history..... -
I agree- it is strange that the CA say that 'You' should have noticed- well of course you have, by trying to buy the item at the ridiculously low price! So, if you were asked whether you HAD noticed, it would be a bit tricky to claim that to you, buying something for £125 when it's clearly a £1250 value happens so often that you don't get an alarm bell ringing upon seeing the ad.....

About twice a year a horde of long-tailed tits turns up in my garden and it makes my week. I was at Peter Gabriel's studio in Box last year, and right outside the window of the Tech Department there was a bird feeder, with five of the wonderful cretures on it...a foot from my face!! One of the tech boys said it was difficult to get any work done some days.....:) -

Nuthatches go down tree trunks headfirst, treecreepers go up, if you can't see the bird clearly enough. Nuthatches also scold you for being there loudly, like wrens and robins do.. If you have nuthatches and jays, keep a sharp eye out for goldcrests in hedges- they often like the same sort of territory, and are often peeping to each other in pairs. So so tiny...
