    Hammered coins Worth buying?

Top left, groat of Henry VIII appears to be a modern (WRL) copy in lead-free pewter. Bottom a Krauwinkel / Nuremberg jetton not a coin. The top right? Sixpence of Elizabeth I I'm guessing. Condition? Mediocre, in that the reverse is OK, but I can't see poor Liz's face. Personally? I'd pass. .

    Android emulator for Windows 7?

Eternity Warriors III for me on my Windows 7 laptop. But I think I'll just wait until I get my new phone ..
  3. That should of course read "20th Century" .... stupid topic titles! Christmas was traditional this year. Which means everyone except me was playing games on their mobiles or tablets! So Wifey has suggested that perhaps it's time for me to get a phone that connects to the internet, so when I want a cup of tea I can Viber her like everyone else, rather than shouting downstairs and frightening the cat. I've never had a contract phone before so I'm nearly really excited! Of course as it's all new to me, I might be on here asking for tips about security and so on. After all, I don't want anyone on the ISS emailing me a spanner by mistake, do I? Or maybe I do? Oh, it' all so complicated! .

    irish coins

To answer your question Jordan, Irish coins do have their key dates, rarities and errors like any other series. It's not an area I have any experience with but you might like to check out Del Parker's site : http://www.irishcoins.com/ or this one: http://www.irishcoinage.com/CATALOG.HTM Good luck! .

    Provenance?

Afraid not and I can't see anything that specifically matches in Eaglen. (Pages 136-157 http://www.britnumsoc.org/publications/Digital%20BNJ/2001.shtml ) However the lack of prices, use of 'King' and presence of both a ticket to go with the coin and a 'stock' one suggest a collector rather than a dealer to me. The fact that they have gone to the care of writing the roundel first in pencil then inking in supports that to my mind. I suspect most dealers just want something to remind them what it is and how much to charge, so rattle off their tickets rather more casually. Obviously use of a fibre tip pen means they are relatively modern, but the style is traditional ... Not much help I'm afraid. .

King George 1944 India anna 1/2 mint mistake

As you've managed to post photos here, I've deleted your other thread as a duplicate Luke. Welcome to predecimal by the way. I hope someone can help you with your query. Tom

    Ebay Global shite programme

No. They managed to get it right. £23 airmail shipping for a book same width and height as Brooker but thicker. 1750g, so no lightweight! But no import duties, so I'm happy. .

    Ebay Global shite programme

Arrived safely today, so that's 12 days from the seller in the US sending it to Pitney Bowes. All in all, not too bad an experience. .
  9. Welcome emax! Not sure if you have a coin or something commonly called a temple token - a religious souvenir. I can tell you it's Indian, and similar to this: http://www.ancientresource.com/lots/indus_valley/india-kushan-empire.html Hope that helps. .

    Ebay Global shite programme

A quick (0800!) phone call reveals my package is in the process of being handed over to Hermes to deliver. Under a (third and) completely different tracking number, but hey .. so long as it gets here safely, I don't care. .

A peaceful new year to all

I hope everyone enjoyed the festivities. I'm catching up now I'm back from work with a very nice Belgian beer soon to be followed with a glass of Calvados. Good thing I'm not back in work until tomorrow afternoon!

    Ebay Global shite programme

Well, the first stage went fine with detailed tracking via USPS up to delivery at Pitney Bowes facility in Erlanger KY. And it appears my book is now in the UK as it's supposedly with the UK delivery service (13ten). But getting the tracking number to work on their website, or finding out which carrier will be bringing my purchase to my door is so far proving tricky. I'll maybe phone them tomorrow and see if I can get some clarification... watch this space. .

A peaceful new year to all

    Happy New Year all.
  14. LOL Back in the day I remember my Dad building a Sinclair Micromatic radio. Fast forward and Father-in-Law got a Raspberry Pi B for Christmas. Not much bigger than that Sinclair jobby all those years ago. Amazing! .
  15. As long as I can go "Computer..." and it does what I want, I'll be happy. But seriously it's made me realise how much new technology can make you feel the years advancing! I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not actually getting a phone but a chunk of hardware that does pretty much everything my laptop does. More perhaps. It's kinda amazing to me ... though of course to my daughter and her friends it's all perfectly normal that you can have your entire life on one device ... But then perhaps I should have gotten accustomed to such things by now. I can remember being astonished when my then employer upgraded their computer system to 4GB of memory. Those 4GB took up just four small suitcase sized boxes and I thought that was amazing. Yesterday I bought 32GB. On a micro-SD card the size of my finger nail. And which cost me less than a quarter of what I paid for my first scientific calculator .... Makes me feel so OLD!!!
  16. It was deliberate. It's only a budget smart phone. Lacking even the most basic teleport, time warping or terra-forming capability. Plus to be really up-to-date it appears I'd need to understand what a Google account does or why I'd need to sync my watch to my washing machine or something. Which I don't. But it's a start.
  17. Not for many years. But I've bought books from Paul and Benthe more recently. I've found communication good and friendly. I'd imagine if you had any reservations about a coin once received you could return it .. why not phone and ask them? .
  18. But I don't suppose your contract is £7.50 a month Dave? .
  19. I'll get a cap on the contract I think! At least until I know how much I'm actually going to use it. .
  20. Thanks Dave! Much appreciated!
  21. I'm being very cheeky here but I wondered if anyone with the latest copy would be kind enough to scan the page(s) with the Tower shillings of Charles I on them for me? I am interested to see which coins have been chosen to illustrate the series this time, so a decent dpi resolution would be appreciated. I only need those (2?) pages. And of course the scan would just be for my own private research, so don't believe there would be any copyright issues to worry about ... pm or email me if you like. Thanks! .

    christmas coins

True. But the money would considerably boost the reserves for adding to main collection ... Chas shillings always get priority I'm afraid and nicer examples are not getting any cheaper. .

    christmas coins

I might be prepared to sell the 'Marianne' collection I assembled last year. All depicting the republican symbol of a woman in a Phrygian hat. 25 coins (well, not all coins as that includes a couple of tokens and local issue 'coins of necessity' and a few duplicates and coins where she's not wearing her hat, so 33 in all) from various countries in various metals dating from 1796 to 1992. Like these: £500 the lot. I'd include the little box they are stored in with them.
  24. Breakfast. Merry Christmas all! .
  25. Merry Christmas all! Last shift finished, so any comments from me are likely to get less an less coherent as the evening goes on! (Apologies for assuming they are normally cogent. But there's no need to disabuse me. I'm happy to remain ignorant on that point!) .
