    First Purchase Update

No, Rich, I don't think you've been rinsed! It's a good price, but not a steal, and the coin looks OK. If it still looks OK in the hand then I think you can be pleased. There's no substitute for experience, and the only way to get it is to to buy coins! There were probably no other bidders because people tend not to like it when sellers use high starting bids. I have picked up some bargains myself that way. If he had started it at 99p it may well have gone over £39.

    Auction Houses - Juice

Top information, Steve! You could certainly have saved me some disappointment...

    Selling Part Of My Collection

I saw those, Paul, doing my regular Thursday night newly listed check. I have put plenty of them in my watch list too!

I've noticed the health thing too. I thought I was healthy before but you have no idea really what's above you, do you? I spent eight hours solid last week chopping logs - did an entire woodshed - and still felt like I could climb a mountain when it got dark. Not having to stop every couple of hours for a smoko does wonders for your stamina.

Still hanging in there! A month under my belt now, give or take a day or two, but I did take Dave Grooms advice and stop counting days. No slip-ups though! I bought myself a halfsov with the first FORTNIGHTS fag money. Yes, a fortnight, so that's a full sovereign every month if I wanted to. Outrageous.

Darn it. I was hoping no-one else would spot them...

    1863 Open 3 Revisited

Nice shooting on the F28, ,Steve! I figured that the seller would be well-known - they're not the kind of coins you find on the car-boot....

    1863 Open 3 Revisited

Yes, I watched all those drift by, David! I decided I couldn't live with the grade on any of them apart from the F17, which I got for £50 or so. Happy with that... Who is that mystery seller? Penny Dealer.co.uk doesn't work any more...I'll find out when it arrives I suppose...
  11. ..to coin a phrase. Enough now.

It's always difficult to shift the low grade stuff, Martin - the world is awash with it unfortunately. Of course, the trouble is, it's been going round and round for 50 years, so anyone who knows their stuff will have fished out anything decent long ago, leaving a vast amount of more or less unsaleable material clogging the place up. Even harder on eBid where you just don't get the traffic. Did you fall out with eBay? good luck with it! Declan : )

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Still going strong, Peter! 17 days since I smoked properly, and 13 since my last puff (which wasn't strictly tobacco, but I'm not risking smoking that either this early on....too risky). Money seems to be behaving very strangely - appears to arrive in my pocket and stay there. It's never done that before... Excellent Declan I still treat myself to a Cuban or a camberwell Yes, I don't mind getting to that stage - a treat, rather than a need. It was being a slave to Old Nick I didn't like...

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

When it gets there and the buyer finds out it's a farthing, there'll be tears. Often the small coins are assumed to be pennies by uninitiated sellers!

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUEEN-VICTORIA-1862-BRITISH-LOVE-HALF-PENNY-COIN-/301071336264?hash=item4619400348 Is this a good way to mark a coin with its grade, do you think? It would certainly stop people resubmitting to TPGs looking for an extra point or two...
  19. What's the history then VS? That sounds intriguing.
  20. A friend of mine used to live downstairs from Ian Gillan's auntie. The said Gillan came down once to tell him to turn the music down...

  23. oh dear, sorry, me and my "keys are always in the ignition" obliviousness again. Amazing I've lived this long really.
  24. Family Tree Maker, for software. I haven't used it in a few years, but it was darned good back then....
