I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that there's no safer pension than coins, Peter! I know I'm completely reliant on it...
-
Maybe not even that. Sheldon 35-40 I've got down as F+. Looks like your grading of it was spot on, Peter!

Just to clarify, the digit is punched on the die individually, not on the coin! -
All sorts of interesting things going on with this 1854 Groat: we know about the small date and the large date, but I haven't seen one over the other before and... N over I think a P in REGINA It's also Davies 1232 - with an extra stop under the colon after NIAR, and an unlisted one around the D of F:D: Seems to be a bit of a neglected series when you consider the amount of time we all spend peering at pennies.

Nice score, Bob! That looks remarkably like the one that John Jerrams was selling...tell-tale scratchette on the cheek. -

Let's See Your Copper Coins, Tokens, Or Medals!

Good tip, Peck - I'll try that! I suspect I'm still set to overexpose by half a stop - that was the setting I came up with, with much ecperimentation, a few years ago. Of course, that was in the gloom of a bus under a railway viaduct! Times have changed.... -

Tell you what, brg, your photography is superb. I always lose colour with copper... -
This one got my heart racing for a minute but I don't think it is after much examination - any thoughts anyone? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GREAT-BRITAIN-UK-Victoria-1863-bronze-Penny-attractive-brown-XF-/190787369116?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item2c6bd0389c

...and the corollary of that, of course, is that the competition for anything that stands out from the crap is fierce. You'd be surprised what will sell though. I shifted about 5 kg of utter tat for someone in the village last night. Not just the usual bulk lots of G-V pennies, but all sorts of gold plated Cook Islands rubbish that her mother in law had forced upon her from Westminster Mint, and she's been carting around from house move to house move and was glad to see the back of. Beats me who wants it, but still...

Is There Somethind They Didn't Teach In History?

The whole things a bit of a farce really. Even if we don't mention the current German imposters, the Normans only took the throne because they were better at fighting. -
Michael Gouby has one at AU60/65 for £45. Just sayin'...
-
It's the completists that do it! They'll have a decent run of lustrous G-V pennies, and their 1915 will be lagging behind all the others. When there's a gap to fill, book values go out of the window. Having said that, Coin Yearbook 2014 says £80 in UNC for this coin, so grade overestimation will play a part too. Shiny must equal UNC.

Good luck with that, Stuart - I've put a few in the watch list!
