  1. Best wait for a belter for 1936, Bagerap. It shouldn't be long till one comes along for that date. No point in entertaining any doubts at all for such a common date, honestly.

    advice on coin prices

John Another tip: learn to use the Completed Listings Advanced Search pages - that will tell you the prices sellers have actually achieved for their coins, not what they hope to get. eBay is an amazing place, and a lot of us spend a lot of time on it, buying and selling. But, it is fairly rough-and-tumble in there! You really need to know your stuff, and once you do, you can enjoy yourself. How to do that? Usual way, I'm afraid, read, research, practice, make some mistakes but try and make them cheap ones. It's just experience. Before you know it you'll be scanning down through coin listings very quickly, able to spot bargains as well as Scott does, and to spot rip-off merchants as well as Azda does. There are rip-off merchants, of course, but Ken Walker, the seller of that crown, isn't one of them. Yes, that coin's a bit overpriced, so don't buy it, that's your prerogative.

    1933 penny

    That's not bad!
  4. And if you're a variety collector, getting all 4 kinds of 1887 shilling is fun. Not to mention 3 halfcrowns, 4 florins, 3 threepences, 3 double florins, and SEVEN sixpences. All 1887, all silver.

    Advice please.

Have a look at some of the lettering on some 1806/7 copper. Lots of them have weak legends that are really obviously not wear.

    CGS Grading again

Never valued them over and above the coin within, BUT just got asked today by a customer, for the first time, if I had any more Victorian NGC slabs, other than the one he's just bought. I didn't of course...it was pure chance that the example of the coin he bought was in an NGC, but he knew what he was looking for, and he wasn't in America, he was in this country. Might as well have been asking if the holder was Lighthouse or the other lot, as far as I was concerned, Worrying development.
  7. Sorry, old chap, nothing special - no die numbers and just the normal 3. You'd probably get a few quid for it on eBay, and if you get double figures you'll have done well.
  8. Gouby Type B ? http://www.michael-coins.co.uk/CP%201855.htm
  9. Here's my best one of those. A coin I look at just for fun.

The EF and UNC are nowhere near on those old chap!

    HELP!

Best place to start, Dave, might be to check completed listings on eBay - maybe even the specific eBay site that covers the country your coin comes from. Make sure you only take account of actual sales (in GREEN), rather than just finished listings (in RED). And condition, condition, condition! Coins increase in value exponentially with condition so carefully compare the photos that you find with the coin that you have.
  12. Evening all I had this one on sale as a three berry, but I just had a nice phone call from a nice person who advised me that it was the very much rarer 4 berry and I really ought to take it off pronto before someone buys it at a 3 berry price. The 4 berry example in the Oxford Collection has the same die clash at 8 o'clock, but that's no guide necessarily. Opinions?

Well, you know, they're in their pub, we're all driving so I had to make a pint of Guinness last 2 hours, the roar of the home crowd, etc etc... Anne Elk (Miss) And what it is too.

Well for Q1 I said "Owl Stretching Time", as I'm sure I remember that from reading Palin's diaries recently, but apparently it's "It's..." 4 and 6 are quite correct. Another I just remembered - easy one: Who are Cardinals Ximenez, Biggles, and Fang better known as? I'm sure there were a few more - I think a round is ten questions. We won the round but lost the match. Away.

Ooh blimey, I'll see if I can remember some... What was the original working title of the Flying Circus? Who was the great magician who helped the knights on the quest for the Holy Grail? Which olympic event ended with the contestants shooting themselves? What was the cheese shop uncontaminated with? What animal did the knights construct in imitation of the Trojan Horse? Complete the following: "Real emetic fans will also go for a Hobart Muddy, and a prize winning Cuivre Reserve Château Bottled Nuit San Wogga Wogga, which has a bouquet like an...."

Well, that's two strokes of luck today - firstly I bought this as a 3 berry for £50, from someone who really ought to have known, and secondly, there was a Monty Python round in the pub quiz this evening. Must be some karma coming my way.
  20. Interesting to me, anyway, as I don't get to handle them that often... Another sweet old lady, another late husbands little tin of treasures. I have told her already that she hasn't won the lottery, but I also told her that I'd run some of them past you lot, those that I could do with a quick confirmation of my Spink number guesses! The Charles I shilling, TG, I haven't even attempted to identify, but I am sure you can, standing on your head. So that one first... And No 2, Edward VI shilling : S.2482?
