It does seem that way doesn't it JMD but I don't think the British system of grading will fade out at all after all, who is going to use american grading just because the Royal Mint does?! -
Royal Mint News
Half Penny Jon replied to Geoff T's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That is absolutely ridiculous! I didn't think the royal mint would ever do anything like that! I think it a sign that they think slabbing and grading is the future for coin grading, I however strongly disagree. -
Why is this place so quiet!
Half Penny Jon replied to Sylvester's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I have been quite quiet recently because I have been busy doing various things. Do not forget that it is the summer holidays for all us young people as of last friday so some of us will be going away at some point, and most of us will spend the majority of our time doiung different things. I will not forget you though, even when I am away, I check the forum daily for new articles and I will post when I feel my opinion is relevant. -
Your cover ideas please.

Coin storage

Over time there will be cabinet rub on coins in capsules and on coins in cabinets that have been moved around quite a lot. You could always seal your coins in a cardboard display case which has a plastic circle in the middle ( I'm sorry, I cannot remember it's name). -
Coin storage
Half Penny Jon replied to Half Penny Jon's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
A cabinet can come with different sized inserts to display different sized coins. It does not affect the coin majorly if it 'rattles' about in the capsule, the capsule protects it. -
Wow, now that is the first case of a £5 in circulation that I have seen. Someone must have wanted to spend it! Well done Oli, that it definately a 'keeps'!

George III 1804 Dollar
Half Penny Jon replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Forgerys were very common at that time, I have lost count of the number of 18th century halfpenny forgeries. There is another similar forgery which was discussed quite recently here on the forum. It was an 1817 or 1818 half crown. -
Coin storage

Does cabinet friction only occur if you constantly move the coins about? When I get my one in approximately 30 days from Peter Nichols then I will put them in there and try not to remove them too often. I will also use a few packets of silica gel placed between the doors of the cabinet and the trays to remove water vapour to stop verdigris. I think we brits are very proud and pleased with our collections, I know I am! We try not to buy coins for investment unless we want to. When we sell our coins, any profit we make is a bonus! -

I would invest in decent trays or even better a cabinet. Chris has a wide selection of storage accesories on this website. -
Now what do you think of this idea?
Half Penny Jon replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Rotographic Publications Forum
I have to admit that the quality leaves something to be desired, but that problem can be easily solved! -
Now what do you think of this idea?
Half Penny Jon replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Rotographic Publications Forum
I think that it is a good way to promote your books chris, but it spoils the forum for the rest of us. We want it to stay the way it is. I do not want to be answering reference book questions all the time, maybe you should create a sub-forum as Oli previously suggested? Why change something as good as this forum? -
This sounds like an interesting coin.............

I can see what you are getting at. Maybe a 1797 penny, an few silver, gold, or copper coins. As well as a few decimal proofs. -

Also, the 'prices for all coins' is incorrect, it only lists coins from crowns to quarter farthings from 1820 onwards. -

Make the colours a bit less bold (light or barkish blue) the layout is very good mind you!
