Just to start things off
Half Penny Jon replied to GDJMSP's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Colin was undecided on the matter, he ended his description with "is it a proof?" -
That is a great idea Oli! It would help us when both buying and selling (we can cancel bids of dodgey ebayers) You could be an Ebay policeman!

He is quite a reputable dealer, I doubt he would sell a fake coin unless he says it is a fake. -

I would only like to see them because I am interested in the format you have chosen Chris. -
It could be a ploy to ensure buyers that his coin is not fake when it in fact is fake! Elimentary dear Watson!

Half Penny Jon replied to alandyer's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I don't know if there are many, or any at all! On the front cover of Spink 2004, there is a picture of the ex. Slanley Charles I Exeter Halfcrown dated 1642, which looks like a GEF/UNC to me. -
How should i look after my coins ?
Half Penny Jon replied to alandyer's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
If you think about it there must be some hammered coins which have not been put into general circulation, the trouble is they are usually worn from being in the ground for hundreds of years. -
The funny thing is that it's virtually all true (well at least about people who have not got the first clue about the selling of coins)!

1981 half crown!
Half Penny Jon replied to Master Jmd's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
It's in his printed catalogue as well. I meant to ask him about it. In the immortal words of Lady Bracknell, I have known errors in that publication. For ages he had Queen Victoria down as 1937-1901 and I've reminded him that Edward VII's wife wasn't called Alexander He is very careless sometimes considering he has a smaller army of I.T experts on his team! -
How long have you been collecting?
Half Penny Jon replied to Master Jmd's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have been collecting for 9 years and I am only 15. I started off collecting when my Grandfather gave me a bag of some predecimal coins which he saved when the decimal system was introduced. They were all circualted when I got them but I didn't care when I was 6!
