I don't believe it! Bragonbrit has withdrawn the 1869 penny from the auction! He must have got a serious offer for the coin. -
Top 10 favourite coins in your collection...

I take my hat off to you Wybrit! That is an outstanding collection of rarities. I am amazed at the 1869 penny, it's wonderful! That 1905 florin is not to be sniffed at either! Wonderful, just w onderful! -
Chris will want to have a go at you now about his bandwidth!

Fur or no fur?

I have been brought up in a similar way too. My father encouraged me to go to hunts but I just couldn't see the point. I have only been a few times. -
Fur or no fur?

All I want to say in this thread is that I cannot understand for the life of me why some idiot would ponse around killing a vital and harmless part of our world. What really sickens me is they they do it in the name if fashon! Finally, I just want to say that Oli needs to have a re-think on his animal policy. -
Fur or no fur?

I am very surprised that you think the "harvesting" of animals as you put it is at all acceptable Oli. It surprises me that you support such a cruel and pointless market. -
I would grade it BU Gem, I think that's a grade.

Yes, but JMD was asking if his coin qualified for FDC.

That is a wonderful coin, seldom seen in UNC. I have only ever seen one for sale on Ebay in BU which was about a year ago. The seller sells loads of great stuff, he even sold a Cromwell pattern farthing! -
is this real?
Half Penny Jon replied to Master Jmd's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
If you read the description JMD, it says that it is "similar to currency penny of 1860" which does not mean that it was made in 1860, it could have been made at any time. -
I should imagine that there are many hairline scuffs and scratches JMD.............

I agree with JMD, there are alternatives to fur in the manufacture of textiles. PS: It's CERTAIN not CIRTAIN Master JMD. -
She came second in the "Greatest ever Britan" contest. She did excellently as a queen, she is my second faviorite after Queen Victoria.

It looks interesting but it is much much smaller than a penny. What is that word in the exergue?. I am not sure what it can be. Wait until Chris comes on here, I am sure he will have some suggestions. -

Lol, do they use the same grading system with hammered coins? -
I suppose Oli will want to have an input...................

If one saves a coin which is "mint fresh" and has no stratches, flaws, blemishes etc. then it can quite possible be FDC.
-
FDC is a term used for proofs and very rarely for currency coins. If your coin is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT with no small scratches due to storage or no wear which I very much doubt, then it would be deemed FDC otherwise it would be BU.

It is very difficult to give a value because there isn't a value in Spink. I would pay at least £500 up to about £2000 for it. I guess he will ask for about £1000. -

Congratulations on having such a dream coin! -
What do you collect?
Half Penny Jon replied to Aethelred's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
In Spink it is "extremely rare", if you do purchase it then you will be a very lucky numismatist indeed, I expect not many collectors have one. Is it abt.FDC-FDC or "PR60-70" -
How should i look after my coins ?
Half Penny Jon replied to alandyer's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I guess we just have to accept that Britain and America have different grading systems and different ways of showing that grading. I just don't like the idea of a coin with a label. You can't walk into a supermarket or "store" and buy a coin in the U.K, it just would not be possible, whereas in the U.S with your "slabbing" it is very possible.
