Was this a good buy?
Half Penny Jon replied to Master Jmd's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
He still has, but it's locked away in his private collection along with his 1952 half crown and numerous 1860 copper farthings! He refused an offer for it of £8,500 in 1999. -

Churchill Crown welded to Motorbike!
Half Penny Jon replied to Chris Perkins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I agree with Oli, I could definately think of a better way to spend that much money! However, in the future, it will no doubt become more desirable. -
How was your radio show Chris?
-
I can see where you are coming from Oli, if only American's adopted our storage methods rather than sending them off to be slabbed and graded like somthing with a label!

Half Penny Jon replied to Half Penny Jon's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
You are probably right. I didn't win the item in the end because I said that I wouldn't bid over £100 and the bid finished at £104.52! Someone paid two much! -

Hello everyone, My Webpage I am interested in bidding for the item above, and I am just interested in your opinion on how much should I pay for it? I will need it to go in my UNC collection of half pennys from 1902 to 1936. Many thanks, Penny Master -
I think that those coins are wonderful.

Chris, I wasn't aware that you had to pay extra for this. In the future, I will try to minimise all applications of my posts eg. using links to websites instead of pictures. Many thanks, Jon Styles. -
Sound's like you had a really good time Oli! Congratulations for your success.

I like the rainbow toning on Silver proof soins such as the 1847 gothic florin which is absolutely beautiful.
-
My point exactly, it is a shame that the American grading system cannot accept the sheer beauty of a nicely toned proof.
-
I know, the grading system is so wrong. I can't believe they would favour a shiny coin instead of a nicely toned proof.
-
I don't like american grading because they dont look for the same things as the British grading system.
-
I don't intend to because I can't imagine an uglier coin.

My Favourite Modern Coin
Half Penny Jon replied to Sylvester's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yes, you can just about see the H below the date. -
Has't this been cleaned?
Half Penny Jon replied to Sylvester's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I'm not into hammered but I definately would not pay any more than £80 for it because the cleaning is so obvious. -

I think that the H is below the date in the victorian series. The H is only there in the George V series. -

Craig and Jon are both good friends to me and I admire their hobby entirely. It is just Cecil the computer sha**er who gets on my nerves. -
I would say that as well because of the 3 lions. Jersey coins don't always have the portrait of the queen.
