What are you picking up Chris, a hoard?! -
I don't know about everyone else, but I find coins graded abt. BU off-putting because I imagine a big scratch or carbon spot (only with coins without a photograph).
-
I really need to make an appointment to see the British museums collection, I hear it's the best in terms of variety.
-
Wow, I might just do that! I would love to see that £5 1826 proof you were talking about!
-
I have the 2cm one but there is a larger version for each metal.
-
I've got one of those! Sylvster's right, its a diamond jubilee medallion. They were origionally struck as matte proofs (had a frosty appearance). They also exist in gold and bronze. Value wise, its a bit sketchy, I've seen them for sale from £4 to £100 in Uncirculated (no wear or damage). They would have also come in a red presentation box, which will increase their value.
-
Is there much demand for them Chris?
-
Maybe it was struck on a thin flan and the design on the observe and the reverse was not struck. I have not heard of this error before, sounds very interesting.....
-
I have just seen this shocking offer in a five year old copy of the phoenix.....2x1967 Wide Rim halfpennies for £8.95! That is shocking!
-
Personally I think Coincraft exploit new and young collectors which shouldn't be allowed.
-
In their advert they say that you cannot buy a subscription to the Phoenix. Just as well!
-
Do they actually sell high grade coins pre. 1900 at the right prices?

We have just got a gold in cycling! Two so far and many more tomorrow with the sailing and the rowing! -
I used to get then free with my subscription to "Money of the world" about five years ago.
-
I got my free copy about a year ago.......its full of "scarce" commemorative issues and £5 coins priced at £6.95 (not including P+P). Do they actaully sell rare high grade predecimal coins? I actaully saw a collection being sold by them and EVERY coin in the collection was doulble Spink price.

That's what happens, I'm surprised that it wasn't in the last few seconds. -

I would E-mail Chris at cp@predecimal.com and see what he thinks. He may be able to purchase your coins. -

I also like to see what I am buying first. I have not used Ebay to buy coins for about 6 months now, and I find fairs are the best way to buy coins. Mail-order is good but I am sometimes aprehensive about some dealers. -

1887 Jubilee 5 pounds gold
Half Penny Jon replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Coin News wrote an article on this about 2 months ago......it says that fakes are weakly struck and have pitting in the field and the design. There is also a difference in border teeth. -

Yes, at last a swimming medal! Could have been a silver if it weren't for that japaneese swimmer in lane 7! -
