Do you have any other farthings between 1898 and 1917? If you do, hold it up to your darker 1918 one. You may notice that the 1918 farthing just has normal toning, the darkened farthings are generally quite darker than normally toned farthings...

Quite a while back, I bought a 1937 farthing described as 'ABU'. Since then i have started to notice that it is starting to tone like that of a proof coin. I am now quite sure that this is a proof coin, but how can I be definate?

I have just been flicking through the pages on the Dr. Nicholson Collection, and i came to 1957 where it says "(For the super-specialist who is aware that there are four sub-varieties for the Calm Sea variety, this one has a Pointed 7 pointing directly at a bead, which is the commonest of the four sub-varieties.)". A while back, I was given a tin which was (and still is) full of 1957 and 1958 halfpennies... I was wondering what these 'four sub-varieties' are, and what their rarities are...

Another typo ...page 7, 1856 P1603 mintage figure: 913,9200. I think, for its high value, that you have put one too many 0's on the end -
Veiled Head Victorian Maundy sets

They are all very nice...one thing, the 1901 picture is not working -
Those scratches look suspicious. If you notice, there are at least five or six quite visable scratches on the blank side, whereas there are none that i can see on the reverse. If that coin was to have been purpously rubbed down to its blank, a few scratches would occur when not done with accuracy. But I cannot say whether it is real or not...it looks convincing.

How far do you plan to go back?
-
Yes, hello again william

I'm hoping to find some BU 1925-29 farthings as this is the largest gap in my 1918-1956 farthing set so far. After that i also hope to expand on George II farthings...i have seen how cheap they can be after getting a quite lusterous 1758/7 sixpence from ebay for a mere £10. It is the 1750's that i hope to have completed by the end of next year. As for more things, I will probably find my self within the expencive Victorian bronze series, which is my favourite set of farthings so i do not wish to rush getting through them.

Thats quite a nice 1887 Half Sovereign. Its a pitty that the 1871 Sovereign is slabbed though, i am sure that that is nice for its price -

And the government is trying to modernise britain with these newer styles of architecture. But who exactly are they modernising it for? I agree that older architecture was far better, as with old coinage -
You'll get there eventually
