hello, I have a spare 2 + A 1953 farthing , I bought it as GEF but I don't think it is a good as that . Happy for it to go to a fellow farthing collector DAS

Teg, I have a couple of 1825's with overstrikes on the last digit , one is a double struck 5, the other one looks to be a 5 over a much higher 5. (This overstrike could look like a 5 over 3 though.) I have seen them for sale before but I suspect it is this 5 over 5 die. DAS

All the farthings of 1875 - 1878 have forked tails James ( I have no idea why) interestingly the Heaton minted issues of this period do not have the forked tail.

I have a couple of 1852s which have the same overstrike as well , does your coin have unbarred A's in BRITANNIAR as well. Does anyone have an example with a "perfect" REG?

The 1853 DEF. is a known variety , Peck lists two varities for this date FID. or DEF. on top of the "normal" variety with all colons ( Obverse 2 and Obverse 3). There is also a known 3/2 for this date as well. The 1839 2 prong trident variety always occurs FID. DEF , so I am not convinced that a blocked die explains it . Perhaps the punch that made the die had one stop broken off ? I would be interested to hear from anyone that have the rarer 1840 2 pronged variety to see if this configuration is replicated on this date. The 1838 is known with REG. FID. and DEF. ( not all together) as well as the full colon varieties
