DNW Sale - Alan Palmer, Cleaning Guru?
Iannich48 replied to VickySilver's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I see thst there are more "Cleaned at one time, now toning" etc half crowns in the next DNW auction. Such a shame, as they are very decent coins. -
DNW Sale - Alan Palmer, Cleaning Guru?

I was going to bid on the1871 penny, and a few other pennies. Of course, work got busy just as that coin was about to be bid. It went for £700+, which was not a bad price. Lesson, take a day off work for next DNW auction! -
DNW Sale - Alan Palmer, Cleaning Guru?

Yes, i noticed that too. What is wrong with tone or the odd mark on an old coin? Nothing. Totally baffled by cleaning, it is so unnecessary. I will be bidding on some pennies, but not the silver. -
I was looking at 1861 pennies the other day, i must have missed the f25.
-
Sounds like a nice coin.
-
That is very worrying to be honest. Were DNW not aware of this forgery? Obviously not, and neither were the bidders.
-
Very interesting. I do wear cotton gloves when i handle my higher grade coins, and i don't drop them. They make valid points though and got a thumbs up from me.

It looks like the 1969 50p is the next thing. One just sold on EBay for £15.00..
-
Opposite thinking there, i like the cavity fill theory too.

Plain stupid, yes. Should have known the law really. Keeping any as a 'momento' was just plain daft.
-
Cromwell looks even more grumpy than usual.
-
My bad, it is a half crown.
-
Interesting. It looks like an 1824 pattern shilling, but dated 1825. Not an R6 price, so you are probably right.

Opinions requested.... VIGTORIA

It does look like a G to me. -
Well, they should have put the photo on their website in the first place tbh. But yes, they would have supplied if asked I guess.
-
Well at least it has an 'H'. Just imagine if it did not...

There was a coin at a Spink auction a few weeks ago that only showed one side of a coin. I think that it was an 1826 proof penny, so not a cheap coin. Just seemed a bit strange to me.

Bargain!
-
Very nice. What would the cost be today I wonder?

Not actually 'Unique' is it. R4 in E S C. Very nice coin though. -
Penny Acquisition of the week
Iannich48 replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Well i failed to win any of your lots, but only because the three that i bid on did make good prices, so i hope that all of your lots did well👍 -
Indeed. It still looks like a cast, as mentioned before.

Somebody at work got very confused about this the other week about an invoice from a USA company. They thought that 02/10/20 was the February 10th of this year. I had to point out that the year was wrong. I did laugh.
