London Coins Auction - Anyone Bidding?
Coppers replied to jaggy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I noticed the London Coins auction is now also posted on www.the-saleroom.com, although it's still not an online auction. I wonder if this may mean they plan on eventually making their auctions available online. -

Try the link at the top of this page, or barring that, John (argentumandcoins), Stuart (coinery), Derek (redriley) or me on this forum. I don't think Clive (historiccoinage) has things this modern. Others - Michael Gouby, Colin Cooke, the list is endless. Apologies for anyone I've forgotten. You've forgotten yourself Rob (rpcoins). -
Remarkable how much value a little plastic can add to a coin... link

And equally can't spell - note "luster" for "lustre" Blimey, even at the quoted 'aUNC' his asking price is a tad on the high side! In some parts of the world -- that is the correct spelling

Are these edge variations really significant enough to warrant requiring an example of each to consider your collection complete? I honestly don't think so.

Yes. And how are the mighty fallen : sold for well over £9k by Colin Cooke in 2008, and only £4k in the London auction.. My mistake -- my mind was on farthings The CC coin does not appear to be the same one that sold in the London Coins sale. -

Here is a link to one that sold last year in a London Coins Sale link -
Those defending it will be those who have most to lose, the very people who doctor the coins and sell them on at vastly inflated prices----IMO Many of the ones defending these 'toned' coins are those who collect them and they are in for very rude awakening.

Even with the 25K loss, the seller was fortunate. Cannot say the same for the buyer. -

Live Bidding DNW?
Coppers replied to Coinery's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I've submitted my bids already but I notice that when you click on "Bid Live" it pops up with: "This facility will be made available on the day of the auction." Promising, but I'd ring them today to be sure - 020 7016 1700. Based on their prior sales, that is exactly the case -- live bidding is only available on the day(s) of the sale. -
After reading what you have written on the subject of currency vs proof wreath crowns, I think you are probably being too modest,

Copper, 'toned' as only the US can?
Coppers replied to Accumulator's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
If any of you ever frequent US coin forums you'll very quickly see that a number of collectors are paying huge premiums often many multiples of market price for attractively toned coins and goodness help anyone who might suggest to them that these coins have had some help in getting that way. -
