    Place your bets...

    Hopefully, Susan...
  2. He seems to have realised there's much more money to be made from touring Genesis!
  3. Sorry I'm rather slow tonight - what kind of pie is that? I can only get "square root of minus one two cubed sigma'!
  4. Far better value IMO would be to go and see one of the Steve Hackett 'Genesis' gigs. I've only ever seen these on You Tube but they are impressive, though with little improvisation (in that sense, he's a bit like a tribute band).

    Possible Fake Coin

Hmm. I find it very difficult to pronounce on gold coins as the lack of toning on gold generally removes one obvious indicator.

    Possible Fake Coin

Google it. There's lots of free software out there to reduce image sizes and file sizes. Here's an online resource: https://www.img2go.com/compress-image
  7. Actually, I've just had a thought about those ticket prices. Artists used to get a decent proportion from CD sales, but what they get from digital downloads is a fraction of that, and even less from streaming. I reckon ticket sales from live gigs is their main source of income now, especially as CD sales have nosedived.
  8. John, where James had had had had had had had had had had had had scrawled above it in red by the teacher.
  9. Rudolf Schmidt, the Senator for Arizona, was entertaining the Russian ambadassador over Christmas. After dinner Schmidt looked out of the window and saw sleet was falling. "Hey" he said to his guest, "It's snowing". The ambassador laughed out loud. "Is not snow, tovarich - is just rain!". It didn't often snow in Arizona so Schmidt stuck to his guns. "No, that's not rain - it's snow". The ambassador kept insisting it was only rain, and Schmidt got quite heated. At that point, Schmidt's wife tapped on his shoulder and whispered to him "Rudolf, the Red knows rain, dear".
  10. No, it's a die clash - the 'flaw' is actually Vic's mouth and chin, reversed.
  11. I saw them 5 or 6 times, but only once post-Gabriel. I doubt they are still that good live, and at those prices it's a big NAE from me.
  12. You can do the same in Photoshop if you're comfortable working with layers. put each letter on a separate layer make the top layer to be 50% opacity nudge the top layer until it's directly over the letter in the bottom layer use the brush with a suitable colour to paint the bits you want to highlight merge the 2 layers and save the image

What the heck is this coin?

Not a fake as such, more likely a gaming counter, though they usually have "impossible" dates on.
  15. I don't see any problems with it being genuine. Apart from the crud on the obverse, I'd rate it at least VF - in fact, I'd say GVF but just for wear. "GVF with crud"!

    Recessed ear 1915/16 penny

This has been posted in Hammered - can a moderator move it please? (Just to add - that lovely example doesn't seem to have the broken tooth?)
  17. Indeed. "Can you pass the salt?" should always elicit the reply "Yes", but no actual salt appears.. 😄 And I also find the beginning of replies with "So" incredibly annoying. So (!) many Pointless contestants do it.
  18. Definitely! Though I got a much better one - NEF - from Cookie in the 90s. A GEF would now suit me...

    Maverick Britain

Something which the EU - with our help and co-operation - acted to prevent, by conserving fish stocks of threatened species and stopping the unregulated fishing of spawning and baby fish. Now we've left we'll have to act alone to protect our waters from Russian super-trawlers and fish factories.

Nice one. 😋 Pity about the slab...
  21. I'd go with Fine for the obverse, but there is too much wear and damage on the reverse, so between Fair and F for that.
  22. I edited my reply to point you to the book on grading (see banner ad above) - worth its weight in gold!
  23. Sadly, it's not even Fine - I'd say Fair, as you can see the main outline and all of the legend. Here's a VF one I found on the internet: Don't make the classic mistake of saying "for its age" - wear is assessd the same whether a coin is from Charles II or Elizabeth II. It's only when you go further back to hammered coins that different criteria come into play. But keep going - the best way is to learn from mistakes, just don't make expensive ones! And enjoy the coins you've got, no matter what the grade they are. Talking of grading, Derek Allen's book on grading British Coins (see banner ad above) is priceless for learning. Even most of us 'old hands' have it.
