Mystery "BB" commercial countermark on 1883 penny...
Peckris 2 replied to JLS's topic in Free for all
That's the penny presented to Michael Caine in 1964. -
£2 isn't bad at all, for a 'no waves' variety.

Gothic Crown for sale on the Royal Mint website
Peckris 2 replied to Lee_GVI's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Pleasure to the buyer may be followed at some unspecified point by huge disappointment when what they thought was also an investment produces a big loss. So I would suggest that "rip off" is wrong. -

Interesting - the example shown on the RM website appears to be Heritage LOT #31238. -
Erm.. you do know that Fred Scuttle IS Benny Hill don't you?

I'd trust Fred Scuttle more though.

Give me the choice of one coin from your collection, and I promise not to relay this to Mrs Mike.

Mobile banking apps - what's the big deal?
Peckris 2 replied to 1949threepence's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
It wasn't Apple - You Tube obviously changed something in their browser operation that forced an app download instead. -

I couldn't search for anything in You Tube on my iPad. I had to download their wretched app before it would work. -
Pictures upload as they are on your computer. Yes, it does look like an overdate though hard to see upside down. "I'm calling it 6 over 8 because it looks to me like the 8 is struck over the 6." Illogical, Jim.

On a good day. The only thing in its favour is that the obverse looks as if it's been Mint toned?

Remember the Guardian Royal Exchange company? Their logo was an owl and their phone number ended 282820. Damn clever!
-
Ah. That's a unique type using advanced minting techniques for its time. I'd say neither early milled nor machine age, but a one-off somewhere between the two.

The best for many miles. A worthy rival to York and London.

You may well have been the guy who cleaned MY records then! It was definitely the early 90s IIRC.
-
Wow - coincidence! That's where I bought mine from, as it was probably the highest rated hifi shop in the West Mids (travelling to Worcester from Birmingham was easy enough; they also had an absolutely superb cleaner for vinyl records in their basement, which made the excursion worthwhile). The only thing was, they talked me into replacing my Shure M75ED cartridge with a Linn K5, which I ended up thinking was actually worse, and got myself the Denon.
