Michael Gouby has an AUnc 1981 currency 10p on his list for £100, as he claims it's rarer than the Kew! He won't get it of course, but even so...

different editions of freeman's books

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think so much of yellow/green toning, ESPECIALLY when it largely hides the standing figure of Britannia. I'll be absolutely gobsmacked if it reaches estimate, on this side of the Atlantic at least. -

Am I missing something? Lot 46 (1902 florin) has an estimate £1000-£2000. Is there a rare variety I'm not aware of? -
Pretty much.

Thanks Mike. Lots 109 and 112 have large pictures on the pdf I'm looking at .. which makes me ask, How on earth do they certify the halfpenny as a definite proof (£5000-£8000), while the penny (112) is described as 'prooflike' (£200-£250) only? I defer to the experts of course, but I do wonder how they made that distinction. Could all be just a matter of opinion. -

Open 3 pennies
Peckris 2 replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Purely guesswork but.. this was the first 3 in a date since bun pennies. Could the open 3 be the first attempt which was replaced after an unsatisfactory production run? -
lovely 1950 florin....until

Classic result of the horrible red card case of the 1950 proofs having an effect on (presumably) the side facing upwards. -
Open 3 pennies

From those pictures, and the one Mike posted, it looks very much as though the serif was added separately. Maybe due to a later decision to add one, or perhaps because it was difficult to engrave a 3 + serif in one go? -

Quite so. One thing hard Brexiters just will not accept is that there are very many reasons people voted the way they did in 2016, on both sides. Who knows what the sentiments are now, but if there is to be a second referendum (based on what we now know rather than the vague information and promises made 3 years ago) then both sides must accept the outcome, whatever it is. You say "unfortunately" but in the case of Ireland and Denmark, the voters overturned the result of the previous referendum so it wasn't their government who decided the outcome. The case of Greece is different - the government there ignored the result of the referendum and settled a deal with the EU. You'd have thought that Greek government would have been thrown out at the next election but amazingly they were re-elected. I think the FIRST referendum did untold harm to the political system already, but as we may be seeing seismic changes in the traditional 2-party FPTP system, that may not prove to be a bad thing in the long run. A single party exerting a stranglehold for 5, 10, 15 years is not really a good system for the modern era. -

I think it's a legislative amendment? Cooper's similar amendment was defeated a couple of weeks ago, but the non-binding amendment that was voted on the same night was passed. -
Help for the digitally challenged please

Yeah - I downloaded iOS 11 for my iPad before realising that with iOS 11 you can no longer switch off "2 Factor Authorisation", something I find a PITA as despite "trusting" my browser I can't login to iCloud on my desktop without first entering a 6-digit code sent to my iPad. Sigh. -
Obviously stuck in their pocket with other money for several months...

The Apple habit of issuing a new OS every damn year is also horrendously irritating. I'm still using the ancient Mavericks (2013) which is only a little older than Windows 10! And don't get me started on the lack of optical drives. Wot, we don't watch movies any more??? -

Mine looks rather sick by comparison, especially the reverse, but I can console myself with the fact it only cost a fraction! -

That's a strong price! But worth it in that condition, I'd say. -

The EU cannot compromise on the backstop - they (as May obviously isn't going to, in thrall to her ERG 'party within a party') have to protect the Good Friday Agreement. Interesting - where did you hear that? If it happens, it means any EU member state could use Ireland to get effectively free trade with the UK and vice versa. I imagine Dublin would soon take a dim view of that, especially if the EU threatened to protect the Single Market. I very much doubt Brussels would wear it for very long. The Single Market does have its own border after all. Corbyn's conversion to the idea of a Customs Union increasingly looks like the most sensible alternative. There's no great resistance to the idea, apart from the hardest of hard Brexiters. -
or a little under £200

Penny Acquisition of the week
Peckris 2 replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Very nice Mike. You're right, it's probably the hardest Edward penny to find in top condition, and that includes the 1902LT in my opinion. -
What's worrying is that they've combined an obviously fake portrait (the eye is wrong and the beard is just too detailed and perfect) with the 'not fully struck up' Britannia that is par for the course on genuine examples. Ok, it's only £12:50 but someone is going to buy a few and sell them to unsuspecting punters for hundreds.

Are they the same coin? They appear to be different shapes!
