DNW changing names.....?
Bruce replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
DNW is simple n we all get use to say DNW here n there...but if they are originally partnership n others 2 are left, then name change is becoming a must for them. -
It's amazing what photography can do!?

I noticed there will be another penny from LCA years ago to be auctioned in HA, with slab change from CGS to NGC. I think price will go much higher as well, in view of usual high prices in US n Japan auction houses. -
I monitored some pennies in this auction and the one held in a day before. But finally, I can make bid for 1 lot only, coz others were way above my target in opening bid.
-
yes, don't know if due to lighting or else. By the way, if look at reverse, is it worth MS64?

Crazily high. Not only this one, but also other Crown, Halfcrown, Florin.....

I am looking at Schulman bv auction right now, and prices hammered seems on high side for UK coins. -
Spink Hoover Crown Sale
Bruce replied to VickySilver's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I briefly go through the auction items days ago, and have a feeling that estimates are not cheap in view of items and quality offering. I will likely pass n wait for subsequent Shilling one. For Churchill, i remember it's discussed in another post that high price realised. I am also not a fan of this Crown. Let's see how it is performed this time. -
Latest bargain from the Royal Mint shop
Bruce replied to david.bordeaux's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Years ago, i have asked them for pictures of actual coin selling. They declined to do so, and said if you think the quality is not up to standard, you can return in 7 or 14 days which i can't remember the exact days. I think they are having below par sales standard for such a big organization. -

RM must be making a hefty profit from buying at 50 and selling at 250. Maybe they are charging 200 for authentication😅. -
Solely speculation i think, and is similar to the "gimmick" of NFT which I totally have no idea about it, and also no one care about ownership of the coin. For the value, i think it will be determined by the seller, who will only sell a little part at first, pushing up the price, and sell the rest. Traditionally trap, haha, am i thinking too much? It's also mentioned 100 replicas will be made with Baldwin, any chance these will be sold in the market as a real one in the future? By the way, I would rather have a very common 1963 Penny on hand, at least I own an art piece😁, though someone may think otherwise😅.

I also do not know how to differentiate 1858 and 1859 Die 3A with others, even after studying samples from London Coins past auction results. For shilling list, it's a very comprehensive list, you may add 1887 Die 1A, 1B, 1C. Some other minor variances regarding date width for earlier years, for example 1842, 1856, but there may be too many to include in the list.

US auction houses, alongside with Japan auction houses, often have some extraordinary good prices for UK coins🤔. No idea why😅.

Spink Auction Now - Wow! George V Silver Going High
Bruce replied to VickySilver's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Same here in Hong Kong, my younger colleague is talking about it and speculate in every week, while to me, just like a unrealistic black hole which may become zero when wake up one day. Maybe I am too old already😅. -
Halfpenny ID check

Thank you Jerry for sharing all above lovely halfpennies in your collection. 200% agree that you won't dispose it, coz taking it out and have a look is already a big enjoyment. Cheers, and thanks again for your sharing. -
Hello everyone, I am a newbie. I visit the forum almost on daily basis in the past year, learn a lot from you all experienced collectors. Finally decide to register, while it takes some weeks for approval 😅. I have a question about storing copper/bronze pennies. I am currently keeping penny and halfpenny in capsule then in an air-tight box, due to the high humidity here in Hong Kong. In the same box, I also keep silver coins, like shilling, florin etc. Is it ok to do so? Or I should separate copper/bronze coins from silver coins? Thanks in advance for your advice.

HA often have some ridiculous hammered price about UK coins, totally no idea why.
-
Thank you Ian for sharing your gorgeous penny, and it is always nice to learn something new. Cheers, and have a nice weekend ahead.

After working for a full day, I can have a look at my coin again😆. And yes Ian, it seems match all your descriptions. The 1848/7 overdate is with 7 towards the front of 8; D"EI" are with protrusions; "B"RIT and D"E"F both are similar to your photos. I have a close-up look to the FID":" again, and suspect the circle is the place where the upper dot is missing (sorry for poor quality photo). Is it where the dot should be taken place in your specimen?
-
Thanks Ian for detailed explanation, I will try to check later when back to home to see if match your findings. For the missing dot in colon, I initially suspect whether there's any trace of tooling coz the area around is a bit darker.
-
Bought an interesting 1848/7 Penny, would like to learn whether the FID. on reverse, instead of FID:, is common.

Any idea why Lot 2011 1927 Halfcrown was only hammered at GBP44? Seems a bargain for buyer? https://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=175&searchlot=2011&searchtype=2 -

Thanks for your explanation Rob, and see your point why odd number prices are taking place. Then, in this case, since LCA do not have online bidding system, it's better to bid all lots in 101, 111 etc, so that you may win 1 lot in a marginal way. -

It's hard to differentiate proof or currency issue with LCA quality of photo, as a result, better to avoid in view of doubt. By the way, I am always thinking why some sovereign are hammered at for example GBP272, why not GBP270 or 280. -

If there is no description in the lot, i think it is likely a currency issue as details seems not sharp enough.
