    MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL.

Yuletide felicitations to everyone. I hope 2025 is a happier and healthier year for all, and that we all manage to find a little unnoticed gem tucked away in an auction catalogue somewhere.
  2. It was probably unsold. If you want it, likely as not available at the low estimate if you email them.
  3. Morning, I saw this yesterday and wondered what your thoughts on it are. I don't know much about these George III coins at all with so many patterns etc, but there's so much here that looks wrong to me that I wanted to see what you thought? https://auctions.thecoincabinet.com/lots/view/4-F9I0ID/1797-copper-twopence-restrike-about-as-struck

    Coin cabinets

Morning all, I'm looking to get myself a small cabinet to move my bits out of flips into, so could anyone recommend anywhere to get one from please? I've had a look online for new ones, and can only find Peter Nichols or Rob Davis. Now then, after emailing the Peter Nichols website, I think there is a scam going on there. After doing a bit of research after a couple of email exchanges, it looks like Peter Nichols et al retired over 10 years ago. The phone diverts to a weird call answering service, and the bank details for payment were in what sounded like an African name, and from a weird bank that I had never heard of. Nothing went further at my end than that. Is Rob Davis still around and manufacturing does anyone know? I just rang and no answer. I only wanted a small sized one that would fit inside a safe (like Peter Nichols annulet), so failing that, I suppose it'll have to be keeping an eye out on ebay. Cheers.

I think Atlas picked up a number of his coins in the last auction and haven't been able to move them on at the mark up they were trying to get. Back to auction they go.

    1797 Copper Twopence at auction

I had exactly the same reply. I should imagine there'll be a few of these being sent out.

    1797 Copper Twopence at auction

I messaged the coin cabinet when I saw it, but as yet had no reply either. I'm sure I had an email from them a while back detailing some business changes, but can't find it now. Perhaps there's new staff etc.

Taking place the 2nd or 3rd December I believe.
  14. I didn't go and view it as it wasn't that dear, and when I got it it was given a cursory look over and just put in the cabinet. Only now that I'm selling most of what I have is everything being given a thorough looking at. Oh well, caveat emptor as they say.
  15. All the way around the bust outline? Would've thought Baldwins would have picked up on that and mentioned it at least.
  16. Yes, I know, sorry, I wasn't clear. When you look at the reverse, the outline of Victoria on the obverse can be seen quite easily, ghosting if you will, which seems to be highlighted more where these parallel lines appear. The lines on the obverse image above are all vertical, as are those on the reverse, and fill the fields on both sides, but there is still a great deal of lustre remaining.
  17. Thanks both. Whilst on the subject of 1898's, I bought this other one at auction last year, described as 'prooflike'. The fields look quite hairlined, particularly when you look at the outline of Victoria on the reverse, similarly on the obverse. They all look to run in the same direction and not over the legends/bust, so could this possibly be just die polishing or something else? They are crystal clear with an illluminated loupe, but very hard to capture on a mobile.
  18. Quick question regarding this 1898. It's a wide date of 11 teeth, but not the bisect variety. Is this a scarcer variety than the BP1898Ba and BP1898Ca?
