    1797 Copper Twopence at auction

Oh that's really bad How did that pass mustre? I see a few already reached out. But that is disappointing and sort of lowers my estimation of them. Not a good look.

    Are there three parts?

Could I request you forward this to me, too, please? Thanks in advance. As I said yesterday, I got called into work, so completely missed the whole thing, sadly.

    Geoffrey Cope Collection

The first one most definitely had outrageous competition. NAC often does, in general, for their auctions, I've been told, although Cope is the only one I've bid in.

Will anyone be recording hammer prices, or final prices, including bp? I'm unexpectedly having to go in to work today, so won't be able to keep an eye on this. I'd appreciate a copy of prices, if anyone is already going to the trouble.

It does seem odd, buried in a gen auction.

I also am not seeing anything like a download option.

It does look as if maybe I see wiping over Britannia's arm, but not totally certain. And Jerry's 100% correct. Even making a video and still shots for yourself at various angles and angles of flashlight can help.

A video would really help differentiate die polish vs wiped coin. Wiped, the lustre would be broken. I have seen coins with very extreme die polish lines, and yeah, it often really only goes over fields (raised on die). Perhaps a well-lit YouTube vid of it being slowly rotated would help, or just make one for yourself (obv site has limitations of file size) . Also try a flashlight at various angles.

Keep us posted if you buy it. I'm curious. That sort of lot is probably rare enough there, and absolutely unlikely over here.

On that note, I'd love to track down copies of the James Workman Penny Collection auction catalogues. That was all before my time of collecting. Also, if there are print copies for this auction with Sovereign Rarities on 19th November, I hope I'm able to secure one. Bit tougher sometimes, across the pond.

Workman Collection That tracks Was Bernard the father, James the son, or vice versa? Or neither.
  14. I've grown increasingly more interested in coins of the Colonial era of the New World, as well as extensions of that. Coins minted in the US from the Colonial period, (and EAC, Early American Copper), and really in general, for anything historical, are just too absurdly priced, but plenty of other coins were minted, notably by Spain, and its colonies. So far I only have bought a single 8 Realest from Mexico, a much later Caps and Rays type. I've got one book in hand I've been reading, The Practical Book if Cobs, by Sedwick and Sedwick, and in the mail is a copy of Pillars and Portraits. Has anyone here gone down this research path or collected New World silver or gold, whether cobs or milled? (I won't be pursuing any gold Escudos, but would be curious to see pieces anyone might share).

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

So much wrong here besides 1985 Vic. The screenshots from a different eBay listing, not even cropped. The price. The AI description.

    All Forums Not Appearing

Have you tried a different browser? I'm not saying it'll fix it, but sometimes these browsers flake out in various ways. You may also try closing and clearing the cache for firefox, then restarting it. Or even uninstalling and reinstalling.

Look at Britannia's stick arm!. This isn't of the simian type, is it?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I'd get some nonregals, but as Paddy said, not for $575, and hope a proclaimed expert selling it would divulge it as such. I messaged the seller. See what they do. Many of them ignore me. Which always detracts me from other lots of theirs even more, even if several looked promising.

I'm not very familiar with ½d, especially from this era, does this one look really off, or am i mistaken? https://www.ebay.com/itm/235650100917

780 includes juice, but not shipping /insurance, or tax (which varies by state/city). The shipping fee alone is likely 20-35, and tax may add on an additional 5 to 10% (or none, in some areas). Getting close to 820-900, depending where one lives. Bit spicy.

He should be corrected. Granted he gets prickly and blocks people for all sorts of reasons. I won't buy raw coins off him. He's savvy enough to get his nice pieces graded, but lists cleaned pieces as BU or similar. I know some people he blocked because he used photo trickery to hide the cleaning, and they mention it. Sadly it's the US market as a microcosm (he's French, by background, I hear, but very much operates like so many US sellers). Rare to find good, wholesome raw coins here. There are some, but also lots of problem coins in disguise.
