What is tb/bb, please?

I just came across this auction via numisbids alerts yesterday. I'm pretty floored by the quality, and this is only part 1, no less. I was commenting elsewhere that the estimates felt about half what i'd expect, at least for lots I'm semi-familiar with.

As for the tarnish reducing paper topic, i'm not sure what exactly that is, but something i've read about and considered is getting thin copper sheets to place with copper/bronze coins, have it act as a magnet for tarnish. If it starts to turn, you apparently scrub it well to re-expose the copper. Some people use copper foil, but it's less resilient to scrubbing,do would often need replaced. The paper you had may have been imbued with copper, but long-since spent, served its purpose for a short time. Regarding cleaning, don't use ammonia on copper, bronze, or even lower purity silver. Or so I've been told. Acetone will work on organic matter, but not likely to affect verdigris, tarnish. Very neat potential split flan. You might consider buying the ebook version of the grading book, if you're comfortable reading digital books.

Hi, could i get a helping hand identifying which Freeman die pair i have. I am pretty sure the reverse is D (but not positive at all), I'm much less sure in calling the obverse 6. I don't have Gouby's penny book (altho interested in buying a copy), so no idea how that would identify this, though I'm interested to hear his catalog number for this too. I know a few collectors of Russian, in particular. They may go for a decent bit. Just match them with items on numista (or send me links to high quality pics, I'll try to get them IDed; incl Polish & Ukr, too), then search past auctions, including USA auction houses (since such a large market here), such as Heritage, Great Collections, Stephen Album, Stacks Bowers. What are FDC? I only know if that as meaning fleur de coin, grade for proofs in top condition.

I think M is for Matte (proof). But the census is a farce, considering all the coins not submitted, and ones resubmitted repeatedly hoping for better grades. Plus ignoring faults on high end coins, since they charge a percentage premium on expected value, as you point out here, Rob. It's pretty shifty.

It's bc they got the UC designation, in addition to being very choice gem. I haven't looked at census reports for that specifically, but imagine it's quite uncommon. I'm not all that surprised, tbh. Prices on such are showing no sign of slowing or reversing. edit: so i looked up the penny census on ngc, there's only a single pr67uc, only other uc designation is several grades down at 64. It's no surprise people fought over that. I'm guessing the halfpenny and farthing are similar, and pcgs likely also has few, if any deep cam. I have a pr66cam penny, which is still among the better of graded examples, I'm content with it, certainly not able to go to war for that one sold on heritage, lol, and even the 67 cams likely would be hefty prices i could spend on getting pennies i'm missing.

It's a shame Gouby won't ship his books here, i've always wanted copies (though some are now out of print). At least now i can compare my 1870 (a damaged piece, sadly) to this chart you posted from him. I'm thinking mine is Ab....

Can anyone explain what's going on under the lifted arm? Is this some lamination or annealing issue? I'm suspecting lamination flaw. I am having issues showing much more of the coin due to file limitation constraint.

I guess another term for lamination error is delamination, though often i see people just say lamination solo, which isn't quite correct. My original post coin had more areas than i cropped to, it was just an easy to see example spot, and trimmed the pic size down adequately for the forum.
