I have 10 silver Rands, pictures available, they don't have any interest to me. I would possibly like to swop / trade for English hammered coins that would be of the same value. if this is of interest please mail me, many thanks "H"

Somewhere there is a 1/4 farthing that was found by my parents in the 50's, going through a junk box that was tossed out and what treasures would be found? it has been treasured by the family and lived in a small pot on top of the television until it was passed to my "one day this will be valuable.........!" the value can only be sentimental although I did seen one on ebay that was in its original brass tin... sold for £33 I think. on another similar rummage day I found a Ride Token ahhhhharrrggghhh! Pirates Cove indeed..... the cheek of it was £1! I laughed and said it would be 20p or I was gone.. its odd how you get obsessed and possessive of coins, tokens, etc ... I know I do. Just In case.... This secluded California oasis is located in the Moabi Regional Park, on the banks of the Colorado River, just 11 miles southeast of Needles, California. Pirate Cove offers an oasis that brings you back to a simpler life where you can eat, drink, play, and unwind the pirates way...........

I was given my Grandfathers brass badges I guess I was 10, in my 20's I rediscovered them and kept searching, pre computers.. The RA Museum told me the file to look at and spent a whole day at the public records office as the day was closing I was 3 pages away from finding the war diary entry with his name written as wounded. what a day when I was able to show my mother. It also kick started collection medals from the WW1 and the researching of them. I was also able to work with the commonwealth war graves commission as 2 medal receivers were kill in action but wasn't mentioned... you have to provide information evidence etc to have the names added it was very rewarding in knowing It wasn't just collection...

Hello all, with this coin I have held back with showing, its in much better condition and have always question if its a copy? this I believe to be 40 Pence Scotland Charles I 1625-49, XL 3rd coinage ? another thing that whilst I looked in to the service of this coin Falconers and Briots I've seen mentioned but still need to know more, is this mint related? please advise. again I think it was a boot fair around the 90's it was a mixed of 1950's and foreign coinage, so not a big purchase........... maybe as much as 50p. please do have a look and see what you think, many thanks "H"

following on from yesterdays failing of the.... "this I believe to be 40 Pence Scotland Charles I 1625-49, XL 3rd coinage ?" yes! I was a bit miffed and I was really distracted by the an another questionable coin that I remembered just as I prepared for sleep...... I mulled it over and decided to tell and show even though I'd already decided to show all the silver coins first before moving on. So it was purchased from a online auction place..... it was 2002? the seller had only one listed, he was employed as a furniture reupholster, it was a antique sofa type of furniture that been around for ever, the owner had jokingly said that he could keep any coins if he happened to find behind it, I remember although it meant nothing to me that it was made with horse hair and sack seat and when ripping it apart the coin had been found.... now he said he was reputable kind of person and when collected after being restored he asked if it was all right to keep any coins that he had found? the owner laughed and said yes you keep the change as a tip!!!! result? so now, I seem to think that the owner before had it checked out and it was genuine...... 23 ish years on I guess I better get it checked out....is this been matter of Fact or Fiction? Once again many thanks for the help. Rgds "H"

Hello and thank you, it was a interesting story and seemed to be believable, the guy sell was a furniture restorer, he claimed it was checked and all seemed well. as I age I get paranoid... the others I have have come from a historical coin dealer and some good deals happened why before the gold rush.. Sovereigns for £100 ! I will get the Silver shown and the Sovereigns and Guineas to follow. In the 90's it was a bowl of warm soapy water and a soft tooth brush rinse in cold water and pat with kitchen towel.... just to get the grime and grease off. many thanks for your comments its a welcomed lesson. 👍

Ah, so it could be that they are half silver ? as a comment was also mention..... SILVER COIN AN ASSET CLASS IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY...... crikey! on a look of ebay... £2.50 ish each.

so better photos in day light may be of use. the kitchen scales pick it up as 8grms, these are just kitchen scales so nothing definitive as being wrong as my others do show as 8grms as well.

Hello, Today I may get to have this right. George the III 1762 3 pence Maundy George the IIII 1836 4 pence ? Following Input also welcome. It has now crossed my mind that I should be thinking of valuation, Not for the purpose of selling, more about as this has accumulated over the years I've never been concerned by insurance. I will also will need to make others in the family aware as the inheritor's of "the hoard" will have to deal with such matters later on in life. many thanks for all of the the previous e-mails its really been a boost in my life and all the help has really assisted me with something that I wasn't able to get by with on my own. Rgds "H"

Hello Flash, the shoulder title is S Of G school of gunnery he was posted there when it was experimental establishment, the cap badge is the Royal Artillery he was with the RGA section of the R, Another thing that gets missed however there's the wounded stripe, I have all of his brass inc his Gun Layer trade and Gunnery instructors badge, The Artillery Corporals were called Bombardier.... I have looked into his service and found lost of paperwork its only been this year that I found out about the Shoeburyness Essex experimental Establishment, sadly there's no records of this and by chance I was going over some old letters and the address caught my eye "S Of G" now this is dated 1920, his regt number and Shoeburyness... it all added to the jigsaw.
-
He had died before I was born, I've managed to gather up all his army photos and research, His military service was from 1913 up until 1920 when he was at School of Gunnery Shoeburyness, it was experimental cannons being fired. when the army finish and he was demobbed... when his medals arrived home he opened the and threw them on the fire in disgust... I'm now 58 and so feel the need to preserve his history in case it gets forgotten.

its been a light bulb moment... I can use the duplicates and fill in the gaps so at least have a continues group of dates, or keep randomly buy coins and adding them to the hoard !?!??! why break the family habit? 🤣

My Grandfather,

in small amounts....Maundy? Victoria 1832, silver 2d George III 1716, silver 2d Anna 1703, Silver 4d
-
Well Done with your 1703 Paddy, please be sure to show yours once it arrives, Many thanks "H"
-
Hello Paddy and thank you, I did think the Anna would have been the more interesting of the trio, I did have a look see and yet nothing I could find,
-
For @Citizen H, Yes, it looks like there are problems with a number of the letters on the 1776 two pence, but that is not scarce for that era. Interesting, but not changing the value enormously. Ah so Paddy, any ideas of the value, I need to mention this isn't a profitable exercise, I've never had these looked at and better I do this now then let the other bin these in my absence, I can remember they would have been 50p or £1 around 1992.... sad that this comes down to how much they are worth but this is the way things go,........ BWM 1914/18 medal was scrapped in the 1970's the price of silver went though the roof and the veterans wanted the money....there a lot of 14/18 Trios missing the BWM sad but the world spins and moves on and over everything..... Thanking you all... "H"

Imperfections Hello Paddy & DaveG38 I did use a magnifying glass and I was tired when viewing.... on using the computer to in large the pictures you can see that there's imperfections, I have read the forum and talk of worn dies, I have now seen the 1 that looks like a miss print 7 ( the date for GIII would correctly be 1776, not 1716 as quite rightly pointed out by Paddy, ) Also the letter R also may be miss print.... this is all very new to me, incredible as well as very interesting... the smaller coins will be a real challenge. please take a look and see what you make of it, many thanks "H"

Todays listing, I have a case of were the coins have been stored over the years, and as they have been shown and Identified I will hopefully gain some sort of order, life will be easier? So I hope that I can get things right before showing and so far this what I make of todays coin,,,,,, Silver Crown of King George the III dated 1820. The obverse shows a laureate head portrait of George II by Benedetto Pistrucci. His name appears below the truncation of the portrait’s neck and Pistrucci’s name again appears on the ground beneath the horse. this much I manage to look up. the rest Id really appreciate your consideration all and any comments welcome, ideas about value also can help. all the very best "H"

unfortunately even at a beginners entry level some coins are best kept away from a collection In my world I always like for a second opinion... just...Just in case I'm wrongly to write these off to the silver scrap pot.... N.B the 1918 has a buckle to it. although looks ok. all and any comments please do fire away. many many thanks "H"

Hello Paddy, this small group is the worse from my grandfathers hoard, I took it that they were Maundy 3d... as I have 20 (Believed to be Maundy coins) that I bought over the years 1992 up until 2015... one has a note written by me saying Victorian Colonial, Silver Coin 1 1/2 1839.... so this I guess this is what was bought as Maundy in error..? me thinks this was the end period of buying!?!??! oh heck 20 to follow ......to be checked and confirmed..... I'll tell you I thought this coin collecting would easier than the medals.... Not so....! Many Thanks "H"
