  1. Definitely a hard way to make a few bucks!

    What do you think?

Move over, KV. If Blair appears on coins I'm emigrating to Russia!
  3. Anyone who imprisons coins deserves the dreaded 'slab virus'. And, no, I didn't start it!
  4. I've used the expression "Only 11p to the shilling", now I know where it comes from! Miss-strike perhaps, or blocked die.
  5. You need to register to post a picture.
  6. Are you using the usual intermediarys? The gallery on this site, Omnicoin, or Photobucket? They should transfer seamlessly.
  7. It's not just the investment market that's going crazy. The Hammered Edwards in poor/fair condition are going for the prices paid for VF and better just a year ago. It can only be a surge in numismatism or more probably, just collecting. Have there been any TV programmes on the subject? That usually sparks extra interest in any subject! Remember the Art Challenge? There were hundreds of people walking around with pads, pencils, paints and easles for a few months.

    1805 Trial Halfpenny

Fancied himself as a Roman emperor?

Nice one Geoff T. Wonder if we've started something?
  10. Funny they aren't in the standards?
  11. Not really. Only on pattern changes were dates known, hence first, second third, florin issues can be allotted to time periods, but no more precise.
  12. Where did you get the pictures from?
  13. There's no information as to your whereabouts, but I'd advise a trip to the library to take out a Spinks "Coins of England", (or buy it!). Edward II reigned from 1307 to 1327 and Henry VII from 1485 to 1509, though the coin I've identified is one of those in the first issues prior to 1489. Hopes this helps. (as with all hammered, there will be dessenting voices! )

    Book?

I think I've mentioned this one before, but it just goes to show that coin books often leave a lot to be desired! This one has eliminated Canada altogether! I shouldn't think it would sell very well there.

Is that your brother? Still only 3 out of 500?
  16. The answer to that is -DON'T- Cleaning beyond that necessary for identification will only reduce the value. As to value, in that condition you can pick up the Edward on ebay for around £5. The Canterbury half groat is probably Spinks 2211 as I see the crown could be described as 'angular'. Worth about £20 but it depends on what the buyers are willing to pay in an auction. There have been some rediculous prices paid for coins on ebay lately! (my third edit! My spelling has become very haphazard these days!!!

    Ahhhh! You've destroyed my dreams!
  18. I'd put it at VF for issue. Just wait for the howls from other members! I'm ignoring the clipping as it is usual for all earlier silver coins. Any without it have been in hoards.

Yes! Welcome! But there's more to life than just British (though I'm a hammered British nut!)
  20. I'd say that the first is a penny of Edward, probably II, of London and I'd agree with Henry VII for the halfgroat, but I've never seen that angular crown before!

I'll tell, if you get out of line

    Decimal Coins wanted for images.

OK! I'll send them off on Tuesday. Bank holidays you know!

    Gallery is done!

One thing I haven't got to grips with is the posting of a description. It appears that remarks put in the 'message' box (the one you MUST use before you can post a picture) doesn't appear anywhere - or am I just having a 'senior moment'? Oh! and the predecimal link at the top still doesn't work!
