I voted For the Maklouf portrate, by the way!

    Edward III Penny

Second thoughts! The reproduction of the photos in the link have shown annulets in 4 quarters of the reverse! These are not apparent on the coin!

    Queen Elizabeth portrait

Isn't the comparison over such an age range of the monarch a bit pointless? Or are you comparing Quality of the artist's reproduction of the real queen at the time? For instance:- The reproduction of Churchill on the crown was accurate and conveyed his character but the portrait as a coin subject was abysmal!

    Newbie collector of Roman Coins...

Sorry! It looks as though the article on the Ancient Coin Market site has been removed! It was entitled "Roman Imperial Coin Denominatios" by Doug Smith, and gave the historic and political background to each denomination! Shame it's not available! Chris should have some useful books. (Rotographic)

    Misc. Romans

No. 4 is CRB 318 in Rotographic's Roman Base Metal Coins. Spes is walking left while hitching up her skirt and holding a flower. circa 271. A good picture of the reverse type is seen her.Spes The coin is too well struck around the hair to be a 'barbarous copy'. I haven't checked Rotographic's Roman Silver Coins for the others, but I'd suggest it would be the first stop! Your Probus is well illustrated here Probus
  9. I came across, and bought, a book called "The Coin Atlas" byTime Warner Books. I am intrigued to find that the publication, though quite comprehensive in some respects, omits the likes of Canada and Turkey. There are probably other countries left out, I haven't finished looking at it. It seems odd that a notable publishing company should pass a purported comprehensive reference with such omissions! Anyone else come across it?

    Coenwulf find

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the stunning find, reported in the Daily Mail yesterday of a Coenwulf gold 'mancus' penny. It is something everyone dreams of! I'm not surprised the museums thought it was a forgery. It is in beautiful condition. It's the first time I've seen the denomination of 'mancus'.

    Help Needed.

Judging from the telephone numbers and the slogan, it is an advertisement not a coin. A restaurant named "School Dinners" ?

    Holiday time

I'm off to Spain for a couple of weeks soon (Alcudia) and was wondering if there are any coins I should be looking out for? I don't collect European as a rule, but any oddity, rarety, or just 'talking point' is always added to my Sundry coins!

    New 2 Pence

Thanks! Sylvester! I've wanted a list of the American overcomplicating convolutions for some time. At least now I have something to refer to when browsing "Coinpeople"!

Spanish Find This was the result of another visit to Spain, by accident. I came across a small market in "pueblo blanca" somewhere near Mireara. I know it's for use by Portugese Azores, but a good result, none the less!

    Your Sexual health

I wonder which Eastern country this comes from!! <_
  19. Looks like you have been targeted by another tout, this time for something called Phentermine.

    Too funny

I rallied in one of those - and managed RAF champion status! They don't crash well, though!
  21. You need to post a picture for identification. Indication of size would help too! Seaby's 'Scottish and the islands coins and their values' would help, though it is out of print I occasionally get it from the local library. Someone else has it out at the moment, here, but your local section may have it!

    Can anybody help?

Great! I'll be looking out in E-bay and Amazon. I'll let you know how I get on (though I'll be out of the country for a while!)
  23. Geordie582

    Can anybody help?

Thanks for that! I have all the UK books and the Krause but have none of the US or Canadian - despite having collections from both areas! You've given me something to look out for.

    Kuhli, what's your references?

    Politics yet again

Hear! Hear! My thoughts exactly! Under the general heading of 'PC', minorities are now running this country with their kooky ideas. I just can't see an end to it. At 76, I don't think it will affect me very much, but I despair for my children, grandchildren and great grand-children. How far in the future it will go is anyone's guess. Global warming has a real competitor for ending civilisation!
