    I have 1000 x CCGB2005!

I've just received the ' Roman Base Metal Coins'. Ta! An excellent read. I've already started to re catalogue some of my later worn coins. Noticed the decimal scale in the back. I'm surprised it is still accurate! Handy too. Any though ts on Byzantine to follow up?

    Some really ridiculous eBay listings

Am I missing something here? Unless The Collector's Coins GB 2005 is out of date already?Young Head Crown

    I have 1000 x CCGB2005!

At least, Chris, it goes to show we all READ the book and not just put it on the shelf as reference!!

    I'm a Cow now.

    Behind that bull!

    I have 1000 x CCGB2005!

At least the Whitehaven branch of Smiths has replaced the one I bought!!
  6. Can we keep these lists 'active' somewhere, Chris. It would form a good reference point for buyers! I've 'cut & pasted' to Word and saved with my coin information, but I'm not guaranteed to see all stolen lists unless pointed out.

    Ebay

I use e-bay a lot. Just self grade from the photo, set your price, and let time and other bidders determine if you get the item. Don't change your maximum once you've decided on the price. It's too easy to get 'auction fever'. If the picture is no good, then ignore. It is probably an intentional fuzzy pic! I endorse the checking of postage. It's an old scam to get the money from the postage charged>

    New to the hobby

Welcome to the mad house, Alex. We all started the way you have and gradually specialised. I hope you get as much pleasure as I have over the (considerable) years!
  10. 6 Celtic; 14 Byzantine; 30 Hammered; 29 Roman; 13 £5's; 16 Crowns; 11 Comm. 50p; 12 Comm. £1: 10 Comm £2 Plus 30 assorted milled. Not so much collected as amassed!
  11. In my "Grumpy ol;d man - Victor Meldrew" incarnation. I approached my bank to ask when the new £5 coins will be issued. I was told that "we don't deal in those, you have to BUY them from the mint". Come on!! If it's a coin then it should be available for circulation! So it isn't used much, but it still is part of our currency. Now the mint are 'selling' them for £9.95 each. Is there anyone else out there that thinks this is a great rip-off?

    What is a Coin?

Not this time judging by their web site! I have been given £5's in change by Tesco and our local bank in the past, but who will use the damned things if they cost nearly twice face value!

    Why?

    Ah! The advances of science!!

    Nice Penny

Sticka?? Sorry! The correct spelling is Styca! As shown at Spinks 868

    Nice Penny

Ha! Ha! My other favourite coin - no longer with me - is a stycca of Aethelred II of Northumbria. Can you do anything with that Chris??
  16. Geordie582

    Nice Penny

My avatar is of a Cnut penny - one like the one I used to own. I've missed it ever since!
  17. Geordie582

    Why?

It seems to work now - thank goodness! I'd get withdrawl symtoms if it lasted longer!
  18. Geordie582

    Nice Penny

Call me a cynic, but it seems too good to be true and there are a lot of forgeries about. I don't have the money anyway so this could just be sour grapes!

    Celebrity Coins!

    Hey! That's ageist isn't it???
  20. Geordie582

    Bah

Horses for courses? Perhaps it will keep the idiots away from legitimate collecting and stop pushing some coins way out of their worth?
  21. Geordie582

    Whats your oldest coin book?

I can list the following, Roman Coins - Mattingley - 1962 Byzantine coins & their values - Sears - 1974 Coins of Scotland, Ireland & the Islands - Seaby - 1984 Coinage of the Roman World - Burnett - 1987 Sadly I own non of the above! They were discovered in local library archives and I have them on more or less permanent loan ( I just keep renewing!)

    Indian

Dr. Nupam's site This really is a must for any Indian coins but remember that Dr. Nupam is a practicing doctor and usually takes a long time to answer any e-mails. ( his address on the website) Highly reccomended!

    Indian

Thought someone may be interested! The coins I previously posted for identification, without success, have been tracked down by Dr. Nupam. The left-hand one is a Billion of Yaminids of Punjab, and the right-hand a 20 cash of King Krishna III of Mysore 1838, both common!

    Typo or issue

I note that the Collectors Coins GB 2005 gives the issue of the Queen Mother's Memorial as 2003. Spinks gives 2002 to coincide with the engraved date. Is this a typing error or correct? I didn't aquire my coin until late 2003 so am unsure.
