Why does there seem to be little interest in Hammered coins on the forum? I've thrown a couple of pebbles into the pond with little result. Everyone semms hooked on the "pretty" milled stuff. The field of Numismatics is so vast, you'ld think there would be a wider spread of discussion!?! Here's another coin I'm trying to ascribe. I've seen a number of these appear on e-bay and no-one has tried to identify them. Any thoughts?

Just kidding!

Welshguy, No, I'm afraid I look for the bottom end of the coin market on e-bay and try to identify them! I've had some ggod ones too ( and some rubbish!) I'm pretty certain the coin shown is, as shown on the Colchester web site, belonging to Ferdinand possible a half real as you said, and c.1455 Guest, can you post a picture? As a guest I couldn't manage it!! Wonder why?

Dejavue!! Sorry about that . Here is the coin in question. Notice, I'm back, Chris??!!
-
That'll be great. My PC has no problem though. Will it change too?

I've been trying for about an hour to set up my lap top to be able to log on from remote locations.(I'm having a weekend away). It doesn't recognise my id or passwoed and has me re-registering! Without success may I add. It gave me a new ID and validation key (3 times) and promptly said the ID does not exist!!! Are you having trouble or am I thick??

Chris, I'm going to Texas for 6 weeks next year. I suppose I'll be able to join the Forum as a guest from there - on someone-else's computer??

All this rush to spend money on a book when you could put it towards another coin. Do what I do! Wait until about July when the local library will stock it!! They also have back numbers! -
I've been given new passwords but they don't work. I'll just have to go 'off line' for the period I'm away!

I thought that the cartweel series was based on the penny being 1 oz of copper and the two pence, 2 ozs??

Hi! Sue If you have Paintshop Pro try this. In PSP click on 'new' set the size to-say-1000 x 500 Open one coin pic and, using the selection tool, frame, cut and paste as a 'new selection'. Open the next coin pic and do the same, putting it next to the first. You can then cut and paste 'as new image' then save wherever you wish! Hope this helps?

You've made me think!! With the government hell bent on legislating for everything, will it be long bfore saving "English" coins will become a crime and we must include all nationalities or be thrown in gaol. -(note the "English" spelling of incarceration!)
-
I thought there were ways of chemically treating coins to "appear" aged. Don't some of the coins seen on e-bay look too good??
-
Not English!! The closest I've come to the emblem of a shieve of arrows is on Spanish 25 centimos coins of the 1930's. But they are milled and I think this is hammered.

Here is a coin that has had me baffled for over a year. I've tried various sources without success. I've been told it's variously, Celtic, Indian, Byzantine and part of a decoration. 17 m.m. X 16 m.m. and bronze, thin flan. Can anyone help?

Hey! Don't you lot start buying in my stomping ground. I can't afford to compete!!
-
How do you get the quote out of that box and under the e-mail address??
-
I liked the Diggers and the carpet people best. Aren't we sad!!
-
You've guessed it. I'm a closet fan! But I still have the box!

How about this one then! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW

Her's an interesting one! I thought it probably is from the Eastern Mediterranian. The obverse is reminicent of Byzantine!

Try this website to see how many people you can make resembling Bush. http://uk.download.yahoo.com/ne/fu/attachm...abetterbush.htm -
How much do you agree with politics?
Geordie582 replied to Master Jmd's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I think the trouble with politics in the west is the party system. If we had local representatives truly giving the views of local people in a national forum, we may get down to democracy! But don't hold your breath! There are too many vested interests out there. -
Thanks! "Not a lot of people know that"!!

Once more I'm in the dark! Could this be a bronze of Tibet? I can't read the legend (of course!) but the lion looks very like those shown in "World Coins" on coins of the 20th century, but this looks hammered to me. Any thoughts?
