    1720 G2 Farthing

You certainly have my permission to reproduce the image. And thanks for the useful information, I now understand a little more about these fascinating errors You may also list the coin image - wow am I getting some attention for my little fascinating coin hehe... Teg -the 1 and 7 are interesting....
  3. My first coin with die-doubling Is this good? Coin Yearbook 2007 says £25 in Fine is the die doubling variety worth much more, or just an interesting feature? Thanks for looking at my coin
  4. Found this excellent site/webpage whilst looking for info to improve my listing on ebay Rose, Matravers and Richmond type rounds I recently acquired 8 or 9 of these in a lot and have been puzzling over them for a few weeks. There turn out to be 3 types of them and I seem to have some rose and Richmond types... just thought I'd post the link...
  5. It says on page 44 of Collectors' Coins GB 2005 that a few people were hanged for gold-plating sixpences referring to the 1887 varieties one of which was withdrawn. Someone has told me that hanging for coinage offences was abolished 1832 - who is right? The book or my (allegedly) erudite friend?

    The curious 1886 Victorian Farthing

Ahh so it was in fact due to there having been many minted in that year but not of the date - that's what conclusion I did draw but I just wanted to clarify this...
  7. Regarding the 1886 Farthing I am rather intrigued by this as I have an interest in this genre of coins and was looking in that splendid book "Collectors' Coins GB 2007" for the 1886 Farthing and found that, although the valuation of 'fine' graded copies was only £1 as are a lot of the others from around that time, there was a massive hike in value for coins in the VF, EF etc.. conditions... Although this could be put down to production figures of this particular coin this is what puzzled me: the figures for production for the year 1886 are actually higher for that particular year being 7,767,790 as against 1.1 to 5.8 million for years in the surrounding area of say 1883 to 1891. What could the explanation be?! Is this a book error or could it be the well-known discrepancy between mintage figures for a particular year and numbers of coins dated in a particular year? Thanks in advance, perplexedly, CoinHunter
  8. I recently got this 1752 half-penny. How does the weakness in the date affect the grade of this coin? What is the overall grade please? Sorry I don't know how to make the photos smaller!

    Tricky for me to grade...

In my opinion it actually makes the coin more collectable as it adds to the history, I have a dozen of these half pennys coins now all of a similar grade but this one now stands out as more interesting than all the rest! Just by chance I am a razor-blade merchant! Want to buy some of my "Robinson Cutler Merchant" coins too? They wil be expensive

Anybody going to Coinex this year?

Never been there before, in fact the only one I have been to so far was the York Coin Fair this year. What can you expect to see while there? I don't think I will go in any case as it's a bit far for me to travel down from Yorkshire...
