    The Psychology of Coin Collecting

You obviously have too much money... if you have some that you do not need I send you my bank details! I am interested in history as well, that is why it calls my attention any coin/note struck in Nazi Germany or in any other country involve during that period. Another one I like is the Spanish coinage/notes from 1936-1939, while the country was devastating itself in the civil war. The differences that the wars makes to society has to be reflected somehow in their coinage... well, at least in the past it was, now is not so much the case anymore in European countries... There is still African and Asian nations (for example: Iraq just changed their whole set of notes and coins) but I don't have the connections to get their currency cheaply.

Have you ever seen such ridiculous holing?

What is it with the pocket pieces? Is that a custom in America?

    The Psychology of Coin Collecting

I started collecting when my uncle gave me his collection. He got it in his trips around the world, getting coins from all over the place. I collect all types of coins and the collection will never be complete, but I will be satisfy once I have 1 coin from each country in the world. Then I would go for a coin of every kind ever made in the world. So I will never, ever finish my collection. But I would not spend too much money in a single coin. For spending more than $10 in a coin would have to be for a very special coin and not even then. If I were millionaire, then I would not mind, but as collie says, there are more important things in live where to spend the money.

    ebay: useful?

I am not a "proper accredited dealers" or an "expert", but I can tell you that you have to be very careful in Ebay. They sometimes sell worthless piece of junk for a lot, as you say, and many reproductions that are advertise in a way that many would think to be the original thing. So be cautious and when you see something (a coin) you are not sure about, ask here first! In any case many expert collectors avoid ebay completely. I never used it personally, but that is because I never needed it, I can get the coins I want (all the ones I do not own already ) without having to go there.
  5. Add to your collection of coins, or find a collector that is interested in counterfeit money. I know some are, but I am not sure about a coin that is still in circulation.

    Sponk 2005

Why those dates? How do you know? What brings you to that opinion? I am not challenging your opinion, with my lack of knowledge on the market, I would not dare even to think about it, I just want to understand the reasons. Thanks.
  7. You are right, not a clue who they are, but it is probably more because of growing in Spain, than from been too young...
  8. Once I saw a whole list of the American way of grading, and found it very confusing... I have to look for an explanation somewhere. In the other hand, for a noob like me, the English system is very simple and easy to understand, just 6 grades from Good to Proof, very well explained in the Collectors Coins book, then you can use the + or - to indicate the range, so it has as well flexibility. But as America is such a big player on everything, I guess we will have to eventually learn it...
  9. Such old coins with such details! They are beautiful! But why would you want 2? Just send me 1 of them now!!!
  10. Larry, I hope you received my emails, I am waiting eagerly your reply!
  11. Thanks, I'll do so! So I do not waste some of the duplicates..
  12. Don't have coke either, hate that stuff, I only use it for rusty nuts on the car, when I have nothing else at hand, it works a treat… guess what it is made off!...
  13. I will look at my hundreds of duplicates, what should I use for the polishing?

    eBay books

I am not register on ebay, never used it, so I can not bid... I may have to register now... but not jet, not jet, other wise I may be banned from the forum!
  15. I still do not know the difference between the ones that has been cleaned and the one that hasn't... I guess I will learn with time...
  16. Slabbing seems to me as a way to make money for nothing... I decide that I want to grade coins for a living, set up a company and wait for you to send me your own coins, and you pay me to decide how valuable your coin is... a great business... who cares that I know less about coins that you do, how do you know that? About the protection of coins, what about albums? Or trays? Or cabinets? What is wrong with coin frames? Aren't those good ways to protect the coins?
  17. Thanks for the answer. I wish I could pop over to Germany, but I cannot... Don't worry, I wait. I think the last order arrived today, but I was not home, so I will get it tomorrow from the post office.
  18. Chris' Collectors Coins 2004 book values it as: £30 if Fine; £95 if V.F.; £450 if E.F; and £650 if UNC. Why is it so expensive if there where over 2 and a half million produced?
  19. You are in the right web site, but I am not the right person, as I am a complete ignorant, as you are, in the matter... someone will come along and help you, but I think they will need more information. What is your intention? Keep the coins or sell them? If you want to sell them, let me know, the ones I do not have that are not too expensive, I'll want them.

    Online Games

I was used to get all the latest games before they went on sale when I worked at 3dfx and 3D Power, and for free... so when I stopped working for those companies, I was shocked at the prices of PC games, so I do not really buy new ones. I have like 100 or so games in a box, all gotten free from the companies I worked for, as they where dispose of once we finished "testing". Now I only buy the Championship Manager games, (now is going to be called Football Manager) almost every year. AS a matter of fact I used to run a fan web site of the game in Spanish, but it was closed 1 month ago for lack of founding, that actually freed a lot of time to dedicated to coins and notes collection. Beside that I play Age of Empires 2 online, I use to play like 10 games a day, or more, now is just 1 or 2, and not everyday. Something I really enjoy is playing Chess on Yahoo (the only place I know to play for free), but I am not as good as I was when I was 12-14, when I used to compete and won some school championships. Once I stopped competing my friends would not play with me as they where fed up of loosing, and not until recently I found some regular playing partners, so I am not as good as I used to be. A game like chess when you stop playing you loose it, it takes you long time to gain it, and now I do not play every single day, as I use to... so I will never get as good as I was.
  21. I do not know their value, I am sure Chris, or someone else with the appropriate World Coins’ books, from Krause, can look it up for you. But if you think of selling them and the price is reasonable, let me know, I am hunting for more coins for my collection and this variety seem interesting.

    New Spink

So, when are you going to sell it and for how much? Once you send me the quotes I am waiting from you, and I decide what to buy on top of what already has my name in your possession , I may want you add it to the order, if you do sell it…

    New Spink

Is it more complete that the Krause' World Coins are?
