Dave's dinner plates have always impressed me. Experiment away. My ebay pictures are made in natural light although I have just bought some LED lights for winter. Most of the coin forums have excellent advice on photographing coins (try coincommunity). We have 3 Nikon DSLR's in the house...I do need a tripod to get good results.

I started off on the Roman quest after buying a job lot from a dealer (market trader) for £10.I soaked these in Olive oil and I'd most. Michael Trenary is a great dealer and I bought some nice examples. Also a US dealer who doesn't seem to trade now.I also have a metal detector and the site of a Roman fort across the road. (yes I do have permission)

Looking at it about 20x I will go with 5/5.Nice spot Dave. -
Hi Johnny Welcome to the forum.I have albums,trays,2x2 flips, aluminium cases containing six trays and a coin cabinet.I started many years ago with albums.I ended up putting the coins in flips and then into albums. There is no best method it is down to personal preference. Have a look around the predecimal site. I bought some of the small albums from Chris which hold about 40 2x2 flips.

If one can't drink a nice glass of port on a Sunday morning after a pair of kippers.Whilst Mrs Peter has popped down to Waitrose to pick up a nice bit of fillet....What is this world coming to?

Peter replied to Gary D's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have bought some excellent coins from the seller. It looks nice (not Unc) but this coin is rare.I'm sure dialogue could sort a deal.Chris, the owner of this site is an expert on this coin. 932 issued plus loads of Chinese I would want to see it in glove. Coinageofengland is one of the better sellers on Ebay. -

The hubble telescope is a brilliant bit of kit. When we get to such detail I would actually want a slabbed coin.So I can sue the buggers. If a variety can't be CLEARLY i'd from say x5 I would not be interested. So many no H 1d's appear in a poor condition....which are too worn to ID.If the coin isn't NVF chuck it in the washer/scrap silver box. -
I phones etc leave me dead.I only take my plain Nokia out with me incase the car breaks down or if I need to meet up with someone...prearranged.There is so much intrusion in normal life. My girls phones beep all day, they are on facebook or tweeting. In my day it was the chase of getting a girls home phone number arranging to meet up without the whole world knowing it. Even Jeremy Kyle druggies use technology beyond my requirements or needs. If I ever get text speak from clients/contractors they can F/O LOL.

That is tragic,a great loss to Soottish numismatics. I do wonder why the security was so lax -
Hi Sword and welcome Each to their own on slabbing. I have a few slabbed coins but have never had any slabbed. Your two crowns look fantastic. Keep posting beauties like those.

I confess as working from home the internet bidder doesn't always get the prize. In the room you still can get the last call. The internet is great but as long as you know what you are after and have set your limits.....who cares? -
unbelievable. these pewter collectors are keen

I still know all my parents too, Peter! I left myself open for that. It was late on a Friday night and my English O level let me down
-
Keep in there. My Parents bought me a coin of my choice for Xmas since the middle 80's.I still know them all and their value has increased...better than socks and aftershave.

The tax man doesn't go after small fish....although I closed my company to get them off my back(Accountants advice) I have bought coins/antiques for my pension after taking a 40% hit in 2008. Beware we are heading for melt down.Currently you can take 25% of your pension pot tax free.I'm not entitled to retire at 65 anymore. Why hasn't anyone made a fuss about this? I have paid NI and tax all my life and recently have being paid corperation tax of between 10k to 15k per annum.I now have a second property an allotment and no debts....but 2 expensive daughters and Mrs Peter isn't cheap...well we all have a price. -

They are worthy of study. and a bargain -
The Brussels hoard is a difficult one for me.There are thousands still not on the market and a mass release will cause...shall I say a reduced value on the coins being sold. I will hold off and see. I'm sorely tempted but Mrs Peter has put me on stop...for the time I'll be back There are rumours that loads more will be released in the new year. Be carefull gents.
