I like Nirvana,Bowie,Ramones,Joy Division,Bauhaus,Talk talk and Jazz,Blues,Mozart,Grieg,Devo,Adele,....bit like my coins that variety is the spice of life. It is Mrs Peters birthday tomorrow and my eldest has done a CD of Kate Bush.I loved the early punk bands (buzzcocks,Television,Gang of four,The Addicts,Sranglers, killyoys ...after a few drinks...lets hop.

I think the trick is to get the variety in Spink. CCGB is a great little book.If it went back to the first milled it would be a best seller. Spink woke up about 5 years ago with pennies.I think they ought to try a little bit harder with varieties.

    Chas I shillings

Very nice. I shall have to try that. I think the tripod is in the garage (along with a zillion other things!) It has to be easier than steadying the camera on a cardboard box! My troop claim I have camera shake.....could be an excuse to earn a few £ from my Ebay account.I photographed about 60 coins with which I was happy with until my daughters deleted the lot. I must admit that some of the non coin pictures my eldest has produced are superb.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Numpties the lot of them. I still buy and sell coins on Ebay but it is full of idiots (buyers and sellers). When some prat from India bids on a coin and doesn't pay it spoils it for everyone. Ebay can and should wipe these tossers out.
  8. Sod the jettons some nice ECU coins and 12 sol silver also a few bits of copper are keepers.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Why are Ebay so useless? A bit of knowledge is all it takes. Why are several bidders such suckers? I think they could pay us at Predecimal to vet listings.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Not often you see a £60,000 coin on ebay, cast copy? Looks nice to me but I wouldn't pay anything over £100 on Ebay unless I could be assured. The listing is not the most confident.I have told buyers that they are buying rubbish. Why oh why.? I stick to coins I know.
  11. French coins can get quite interesting Usually a Mint Mark - normally a letter, but a little cow for Pau. Further complicated by additional dots adjacent to the mint letters, indicating the so called "Provisional mints" in the Constitutional period (1791-3) Coins prior to 1793 often have a raised dot (eg under the D of Ludovicus) to indicted the second simester (ie the second minting period of the year) Then there are what the French refer to as "les differants" a symbol for the National Chief Engraver, plus another for the local mintmaster Even more fun when you get to the Directoire (lan'5 - l'an8; 1796-1801) 5 centimes and decimes have not only overdates but overstrikes of the mint letters and/or the differents! David I enjoy French coins approx 1750 to 1850.The big chunky 2 sols of 1791/2 and some great silver.Where does one start.
  12. Actually I have seen some LJG fantasies, gosh knows if Richard Lobel hasn't made some already, surely he will. Oh, I've had some of those too. Oops, did I say that out loud? I had to scroll back up to check you weren't Peter then! I'm sure Peter shares similar sentiments, as long as Mrs Peter isn't looking over his shoulder My laptop is facing Mrs Peter My search history is strictly research based Lady Jane Greys ghost apparently hangs around the Norman Tower/churchyard in the centre of Bury St Edmunds on Feb 24th.My father and his buddies camped out there in the 50's and had a brush with the law.How I tutted when this was disclosed.
  13. Superb info chaps. It widens my eyes to unexplored areas of collecting.I think with hammered and individual striking it ain't easy

Love it. In my youth we formed a band called The Patrol and played on biscuit tins etc and taped our "tunes"(raps about girls we fancied ) Looks a very nice guitar. My rich mate had a Les Paul..wonderful guitar. We spent a fortune on 2 violins and a keyboard for my daughters.Rarely used now.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

He has some nice coins. As long as you know what you are buying I have no problem.Including grading.
  22. His grading is certainly divorced from any other appraisals being at least a grade over from what I've seen, but the hiding of edge defects is common to all. I've have half half a dozen from NGC or PCGS over the years which looked good front and back, but I wouldn't have bought them based on the hidden side view which of course you only find out on liberation. I guess the temptation to slab an EF early Georgian copper is compelling to the person submitting if they know the TPG will give it a grade irrespective of concealable defect. If these hidden defects were noted it would be ok, but they aren't. Flaws on early coppers are more common and a consequence more acceptable - but only at a price. CGS do it too. I think I posted this a couple of years ago when a 18?? farthing with edge damage sold for £90 ended up in their slab and a £150 price tag. I have bought a few coins from Centsles but have bought the coin not the slab.

    Super Saturday!

I once went on holiday with my sister. Absolutely true, but not as exciting as it sounds... anyhow ive been at the olympics all week taking photos.....post some here when the dust settles. Wow and here is me thinking I was the only one who has been on holiday with my sister. I'm looking forward to the Olympic pickies.

    Super Saturday!

As far as cycling and rowing are concerned, it's actually a very clever policy by the Brits first rolled out in Beijing. You target the 'soft' (i.e. not that many people participating worldwide) sports with lots of medals on offer and allocate disproportionate resources to them - result, shedloads of medals. Doesn't explain our three athletics golds though! Although I do have some sympathy with Oscar Wilde on patriotism, it's still nice to see us doing well. That's an interesting point - some sports have lots of medals where others (horse-riding teams for example) have to take part in three separate disciplines over several days, to win one medal. There again, if it wasn't for the athletics tradition, you could argue that running 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, and a marathon, are the ultimate in lots of medals! Which is why I'm so admiring of events where they have lots of sports in one medal - e.g. decathlon and heptathlon. As for the triathlon, my jaw dropped when I saw what those women achieved : swimming 1.5km freestyle in wetsuits, getting straight out of the water, discarding wetsuits as they went (down boy ), getting onto their bikes and taking part in a 43km race, then parking their bikes and going straight off on a 10km run. Should have been a platinum medal for winning that, with a special medal for everyone just for taking part! There is also the 'ironman' triathlon (not an Olympic event yet): 3.8 km swim, followed by a 180 km bike ride, followed by a full marathon!!!! I can do a full marathon, but I think they are called snickers nowadays.
