  1. Trouble is the so called experts are not. Even third party grading companies sometimes get items seriously wrong. On this forum we have experts who do specialise. One particular BNTA member sold me a known about rare variety for common issue prices (I didn't complain). My next dealing with him he messed up and wasted my time as what he thought he had...he hadn't. . There are well known dealers (innocently) selling Chinese fakes on Ebay and Auction houses often mess up(mostly noted by members of this forum).Hang around and post more Thames mud goodies. The fact that Rob wanted to buy your coin should reassure you
  2. 2nd goal was an attempted cross me thinks which went all wrong and ended up as goal of the season. Howay the Toon next weekend I like the Toon because of the Robson connection. Also back in the 80's we spent a good pre match drink, lunch, pool, darts session with a bunch of Geordie lads. Can't see that ever happening with Cockneys,Scousers or Mancs .
  3. The seller has another one for sale http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1878-DRITANNIAR-ERROR-SIX-PENCE-/230780380124?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item35bb9523dc#ht_1119wt_1270
  4. I'm Suffolk and good I did have the misfortune of working in Limehouse and then Canning Town between 1992-2000. I have a London accent with a Suffolk burr after a few pints...when sober dead posh mind In the last 12 years I've probably been down the smoke a dozen times on business and avoided it for the last 3 years. An ex colleague who can pee from his bedroom window and hit the Olympic stadium should be getting me a few tickets for the games.
  5. Hi Danelaw Some nice coins (and other things) come out of the Thames mud....worth getting mucky for. I don't know if the Warminster mint coins are rare without reading the BNJ article.Good luck at the auction, however it may be an idea to sell to this forum to avoid commission you pay and also the commission on the hammer the buyer pays which has to be factored in.
  6. Farthings from 1672 were milled copper.(some Cornish tin for a few dates after 1675 to 1693) The one being dicussed here is an earlier hammered version. Have a look here and start learning. http://www.colincooke.com/coinpages/ccc_frontpage.html
  7. I have a Middelham S2793 Tower mint under King MM triangle. Mine appears to be weakly struck but much nicer than yours.I paid £35 from Saltford over 12 years ago.Probably about £100 now....OR £295 from Coincraft.
  8. Cockney rhyming slang for lady top parts
  9. The one time we need a dinner plate size picture and you turn up with a dolls tea set size
  10. No one is going to produce snide 10p's
  11. Hi I hope you are not paying more than 10p each for the coins.Even the 1953 crown can be picked up for about £2. You are obviously very keen on coins.Don't use the gimmick dealers out there.
  12. The Euro is under more threat than the £. What we need is a bit of a "dust up" Why are we conveniently sending our best fighting ship to the Falklands?

    Oh dear

At least Levin has only got to beat San Marino at home to be be considered successful. Hodgie is a Grammar school boy who can speak several languages. He played for Palace youth and then non league football. I think Rednapp is an entertaining bloke but he can't write and I reckon he could of been a bit of a liability.
  14. Hi Welcome to the forum. A very nice coin (as long as it is not an Ashmore copy)What is its provenance? Spink 2010 valued S1154 at £250 in vf.The cross is too large for S1150...which is a pity. Spink recommends an article written in BNJ 68 on the many varieties/mints for this coin. In this case Spink isn't detailed enough.I would also add that at auction or Ebay I can't see your coin making less than £400. It looks like North "CRUX" type Fig.5 no sceptre but with diadem. For a more accurate valuation hopefully Clive of Historic Coinage will pop by.
  15. I can remember at junior school we did a project on TDC.Talk about give me six. Unhealthy and inbred and rains 75% of the time (sounds like Norfolk )
  16. Coins and stamps form quite a large part of TDC's economy. All the worlds modern stuff is a complete rip off to catch "joe" public.
  17. Be a sad end to the copper & bronze series, but inevitable in my view - Finland has already ditched 1 & 2 euro cents and the Canadians are scrapping the 1c The US cent must be one of the lowest value coins still in circulation, any lower that folk know of? David Dave's Scottish Pounds
  18. Chris Put it in perspective. Your tenant has gone to the police. They will know the facts. It really isn't worth getting stressed.5hit happens. Pay your 7.5% management fee and let them earn it. Every month you remain rent free accounts for several busted doors.

    cool coins

Hi Welcome to the forum. Some nice coins there.I do like the 50p's.BTW the Bannister 4 minute mile you have spelt minuet I know he broke a record but that was his only association with music Hang around and see some nice coins.A couple of the forum members pick up and save modern issues.I have a few myself but I keep it quiet
  20. Much better than the modern gimmick coins you've got. You need to improve your photography.Try taking the picture a bit further away an zoom in on the computer. As Colin has said it looks a nice coin and dated between 1272-1307
  21. I think we can happily include any modern forgeries regardless of origin.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

That looks very much like an altered 1964. Scuffing on both sides of the last 1. Whoever paid that price must be cursing. 61 bids,4 bidders only and it would seem inexperienced muppets.
  23. Don't contact a Solicitor for a £200 problem....that is about an hours worth Kick them out and take it from their deposit?
  24. That's what I thought .... It was graded as a forgery by CGS and I am awaiting a refund, fingers crossed! Nick is right here. These forgeries are fooling experienced dealers.(I would love one for £20 though)
  25. True, the overhang from the Bole collection is going to influence the market for a while yet. Interesting idea, but if I was happy with smaller coins I would probably stick with pennies as these go back even further. I just like the look and feel of the larger currency. So does my wife Is she out a lot? A Penny for your thoughts.
