Chris I don't envy you. We have a tenant in our other property and have had no problems,we let it through an agent and pay 7.5% for the piece of mind. If he has been a good tenant he doesn't need a kicking from you when he is down. I think you need to speak to the police.To have your door kicked down by the police sounds like a possible custodial sentence. If,like you I was living a considerable distance from the property a management company seems a no brainer.

Hmm Both denominations have easy and hard series even in the 20C (Wreath Crowns & Edward V11 halfcrowns) 19C about the same (fairly easy) Once you get to the 18C Crowns become very expensive. What about Florins....you can start at 1849 for the milled series.

Don't be disheartened on value. The history you will learn can't have a value put on it. All of a sudden your collection becomes worth a few bob. I started putting catalogue prices against my collection spread sheets,it was frightening. The value is important and I mainly buy within set guidelines....but it is only part of the joy of putting a collection together. Get your parents to take you to a coin fair and armed with your pocket money,sift through some of the dealers tins and buy what you like the look of.It is all part of the learning process. When I was about 10 my Grandfather gave me a French 1792 2 sols which is a large chunky coin(about the size of a cartwheel penny)I loved this and over the years have picked up most French denominations between 1750-1850 learning about the revolution,Napoleon etc along the way. I needed some new DM boots (reliving my youth but ideal for cross country dog walking)I was aghast that they are now manufactured in the far East.However,thanks to the joy of the net I found a British made brand "Solovair" they used to just manufacture the soles for DM's. Shows you could and can still buy Turkeys (undated 20p's) If you want to buy inflation proof coins know your market on true rarities. Coins to avoid...H & KN,ME 1d's...46 & 49 3d's....52 6d's...32 2/-....25 & 30 2/6 all these in NVF or less are so common as they were plucked out of circulation in the 60's and hoarded. I don't agree that the H, KN & ME pennies in TOP grade will not be inflation proof. But then I might be biassed My comment was aimed at low grade coins...they rarely sell in F for £1.High grade are sought after,rare and I imagine a good investment.

Wow Nice coin.Way better than EF money. Because it is magnified you can see a few bag marks.I doubt it has circulated. I can honestly say I haven't seen better.

You can either uses something like MS Paint to crop and reduce an image to size or use a hosting site like Flikr or Photobucket and when your image is uploaded there, you just pop a link to it in your post as you did with the library pic. The free membership option of PhotoBucket that I use also imposes file size restrictions but that is a somewhat more useful < 1MB. I've just joined

This is a good example of mad 60's prices....43 years later it is worth £80. The key dates chased down pre 1971 have flopped.(you could buy sovereigns for £5 then)

Red must of gone pre-war Birmingham is £1 and last time I went to Wakefield it was 50p.London is £4...typical. Birmingham IMO is the best for my needs. All dealers obtain bulk stock which will include engraved/love tokens etc.Just ask...speak to dealers and being a close knit community they will soon put you on to who has what you want. Apart from old men smelling of wee there are plenty of us "young Turks" There is a complete cross section of society in age/gender/financial standing but the atmosphere is good. I usually carry about £1000 in cash,but dealers will usually put stuff away for you.There are also hoards of collectors who sift through 25p to £5 boxes...I've actually picked up some bargains from these.GEF veiled head 1d's with lustre for £1.A Gothic florin for £5 which made £35 on eBAY . Take a glass with a light source,a ruck sack (plenty of catalogs) and be prepared to haggle.

I'm sure there is a list of fairs and auctions somewhere. However the Midland is the 2nd Sunday in the month and Wakefield is the last Sunday. York & London are not every month.Harrogate was back in March (once per year). The slightly bigger Midland fair is quarterly.The next big one is in June. I think some of the forum members even have tables.

That was a good purchase for £16. the seller has had some nice farthings for sale over the past couple of months.
