It is like the Nun being carried piggy back around the Village by a jester.Virgin on the ridiculas.

One thing about olive oil.How can it be extra virgin?

    Handling Coins

Who hasn't sorted a few out with soapy water and a tooth pick? Just pat dry afterwards....not to be recommended for anything..above EF.I did mess up a 1787 shilling using this method.Alas it had to go.
  4. It needs updating. A reprint for each denomination including the latest resources would sell well..I really don't think price is an issue.
  5. Right foot, best thing for cats. Peck my cat is feral and the size of a springer....he kills rats, rabbits and mice.He can smell a cheesy wosit from 100yds. When he wants to sit on your lap..he does and brings tears to my eyes.He eats baby birds and fluffy bunnies...as well as fillet steak and salmon.
  6. There is no car noise from the A143...I'm taking my chance and getting under the table for this one...I tried and failed to get to the village shop yesterday.Even the dog did 60 circuits of the garden yesterday and felt his duty was to warm my left foot. The cat was doing my right.
  7. Did you have someone round Peter? Round? Oh yes, I see what you mean Or perhaps that should be "straight round" as in "I'll be straight round" I just did it twice...oh I love these snowy days with the heating on full blast, dressing gowns, hot toddys and headache pills

Hi peter. i didnt buy it. i found it metal detecting. jackie Keep digging Jackie...a good waste of time.It looks good silver(92.5%).There would be a very angry person who lost it way back.
  10. Maybe Spink is a bit too hot for the 6d.A coin will always find its level. A good time to buy maybe? We have 1/4d ,1/2d,1d,1/-,2/6 and hammered collectors on here.No tanner boys a scrap 6d going for 40x face is only £1. although the royal mint will sell you a tatty post 1920 for £20. OK we have the 1952 and 1893 JH but what other rare dates are there?
  11. I liked 6d's but when you get to the late 1600's phew. I've got most back to 1900 and a few examples of earlier but they don't do it for me. They are not as attractive as farthings...are they? and you get 24 farthings for a 6d.

As a forum we seem to know a lot about nothing.I still am learning and long may this happen. Tell you what it is bloody chilly...even my dawg had a foot outside and decided to snuggle next to my slippers. This is the weather when I wish I had a log fire.A loaf of bread and a toasting fork....and a bevy of beauties to sponge me down.....well I have 2 out of 4;)

It looks real but if the silver comes off and leaves bronze type coin underneath...Ummmm Buy good stuff and from known sources (we have many dealers on the forum) every single penny you spend on rubbish you will regret. Many pieces you buy you will get more back on Ebay.Trust Chris/John/Rob/Red etc you won't get ripped off.I buy my stuff from fairs or abroad...I do like a dabble on the bay....but only when I know what I'm getting.

You have a very battered Willie 1V coin...what dia is it? a halfcrown will be 32mm and weigh 14.1g...a shilling 23.5mm and weigh 5.65g It looks real....only worth scrap value....about 50p a gram. Get yourself a copy of CCGB for about £6.(see Chris)

It would appear to be battered but is nice and round.Pennies are classified and ID'D even in Spink. Get yourself Englands striking history from Chris....it is cheap as chips and a good read. North comes in 2 volumes and will set you back £100.
  16. Putting your feet up is the easy bit.Every one can do it. It is what you do between birth and death that matters.Buy your expensive coin....fish the Tay (I have)..go on and try it on with the wifes sister...My whole aim in life is to eat and drink the best. When my time comes I will go up in a massive puff of

    slabs

I agree I don't like steak every night.Sometimes egg and chips will do.

Both my grandfathers encouraged me.My mums dad shot a starling when I showed him my new air rifle at 14.A little bit whoo and whay.He also only liked dead Germans. They also encouraged my interest in coins and history.Mums dad made everything...he was a cabinet maker. I miss the buggers.

    slabs

Spot on Rob But when do you want to sell them? I'm down grading now and enjoying the fruits of some coins I'm not bothered about. Look at some of the sales (Workman collection etc)How can anyone collect and dispose of the lot. I will hone my collection to about 1000 coins still about 9000 to sell. There is so much history in my coins from Irish gunmetal shillings,Woods farthings,to some nice hammered...hopefully I will have a grandson/daughter to pass these onto(who doesn't smoke crack). I love quality rather than designer. I still fancy a 12 month around the world cruise and then return to the nice places.
  21. Just dig up everyone who died in 1933....knowing my luck they would be Crowns
  22. Peter

    slabs

I have recorded all my coins on an excell spreadsheet with further ID in the trays. My wife and kids know a few of the dates...1717 dump issue,1698 etc.If I pop my cloggs the girls have enough wit about them to sell on.I did a collection of 1d's for both girls and they know what a KN/H & ME is although an open 3 1903 is in doubt. The gold, silver and hammered are clearly detailed but my 1859 1/4d's with or withour shamrock attached are more difficult...a close TT 1915 would be beyond them. I bought a R/E 1856 farthing from a dealer for a few £ he didn't know what it was and a large date/small date 1875....obviously a "dead" collectors spoils. My eldest daughter helps me sell on Ebay and I do the description...she is learning. She can look in Spink or CCGB and have a rough idea.I tell my wife and kids rather than pee it all up the wall I buy coins(I do like a pee aswell )Just do a good job in cataloging.
  23. Peter

    slabs

Don't break it out.It costed about £20 to get it slabbed. Why? I retain all slabbed coins but....
  24. Peter
