We have just been given a trial Tastecard (1 month) which gives us 50% off or 2 for 1 on food at selected restaurants.I've just searched local restaurants and there are only 3 that offer this deal. However if you use the Money saving expert site there are many free vouchers/deals available.I highly recommend this site. I've used it and made a lot of savings and picked up many usefull tips. OK some of the posters have a whiff of dog blanket about them (especially in the food/supermarket section)but it's well worth a search.

Small British Coin lot .. What is it worth
Peter replied to coinmandan's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
On the OTHER hand - coins like these are on eBay all the time, so if you managed to get 99c per item, you'd be laughing! Laughing I'm sure as you trapse backwards and forwards to the post office. -
Small British Coin lot .. What is it worth

Try selling them and you may have difficulties in raising a few cents. The "large cents" maybe worth a dime in copper. -
Newcastle is in Scotland...isn't it? I prefer Sunderland as they have just loaded us with cash for Conner Wickham. Enter stage right John.

Ebay regular scam/unknowledgeable listings
Peter replied to Peter's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I note that on Colin Cookes forum the shilling boys have been named. The problem sellers on Ebay either do it on ignorance or sheer scamming. A couple of the former have withdrawn the items straight away. I have emailed the "lucky winner" of the 1562 coin.I believe in this case the seller was ignorant although he wasn't going to add anything to his listing. -
Ebay regular scam/unknowledgeable listings

Apart from the spade gaming tokens that so often get incorrectly described I have noticed this 1562 Liz 1 pewter lump appearing on a regular basis. I emailed the seller and he replied (in text speak) "Sir,I certainly do not know what one is saying and quite frankly old chap I do not understand your concern. It has not been described as an original and I thought £10 a reasonable start for me to dispose of" It made over £50 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270764539236&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT At one time it was possible to email the buyer but I suppose at the end of the dqay ...a fool and his money... -

Peter replied to AJWcoins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Why would anyone gold plate an unc lustre 1910 1d? It must of been badly stained...and why would anyone want a gold plated coin? -

"Basted" Maybe the coin was laid by the goose that produced the golden egg. -
My collection at a glance
Peter replied to rasiel's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Ras The 1799 1/2d is a beauty and with unlimited funds maybe. An Unc can be picked up for around £100 ($150) and paying 6x this for nice lustre doesn't enter my coin buying agenda. As Asda said "Expensive" -
William & Mary Pattern Farthings or Medalets

Quality control appeared to be non existant so I'm sure larger flaws are out there. -
You mean all that cleaning he did was in vain? Lol, i don't think it was cleaned Peck, he just could'nt up the grade (like he normally does) because of the obvious wear. The original seller had it listed as AU am sure, 1949 had mentioned it to me sometime this year when we were talking about buying key dates and i said i did'nt agree with jmb4homes grade, it seems i was right, the wear on Britannians legs and on Victoria was evident from the original dark pictures from jmb4home On the flip it was marked at XF which is a VF+ in our terms. The edge bruises were also mentioned.A fair seller it seems.

It is a 1797 cartwheel 2d. VF is a bit ambitious but its not bad. These coins weigh 2oz's and bad edge knocks are usually present in circulated coins.

Thought of you lot the other day....
Peter replied to £400 for a Penny ?'s topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I stopped collecting sovereigns years ago because they were just too small, don't see farthings as an option. I've just about finished 1895 to 1936 in true BU, ok a few gaps, I just don't see the point of starting something I can't finish with the bun head series.... All East Anglian beer is muck, Derek, trust me and heaped upon that shame must be added the fact that they have no decent rugby teams. You must be going to the wrong pubs....IPA is in my veins.I also enjoy Abbot Ruddles County & Adnams offerings A few non E Anglian beers appeal like Taylors Landlord,Pedigree,Tanglefoot etc. Rugby at grass roots level also thrives We also don't like strangers. -
Looks like bitcoin is a gonner....if someone who has been following this can summarise past the hacking bit and explain what these boys are getting so worked up about

Lichtenstein too. The French however have the best National Anthem by a country mile. Ou est le papier,ou est le papier,Monsieur, monsieur,j'at fait manure....ou est le papier. -
What makes you think it is a forgery?....probably 2 dies have been used with slightly different wear.

Good for you, 400! I spent 9 hours down a trench looking for a mains water leak, so I'm a lot scruffier than any posing pop star, and... I hope your trench was securely shored. Did you try divineing rods? ...I found it! This is nearly 5 feet below ground level ! -
We are currently redecorating the lounge, dining room and hall (including replacing flooring)hence the house is full of dust and also furniture in strange places. My coins were to be moved from one of the rooms to sanctuary in the study. My wife offered to do this. Next I hear a shreek and a sound not disimilar to the sound of trays of coins falling down the stairs and the flutter of coin tickets. Luckily they were only my farthings & 3ds aaaaaaggghhhh.....I reckon this is going to take all summer to sort out....My wife and the dog have been absent from my thrown slipper range ever since.

She is aware of the "premier" coins and even had plans for making me a t-shirt featuring one of my beauties...I discovered her plan and suggested a pillow case instead...I'm still waiting and having to make do with my Ipswich one. My penny collection was left in the dusty room so I will have to get out my brasso to buff em up. and thanks John for your excellent offer...that was 10 pounds of 22ct wasn't it ?....I would consider silver if I could select about 20 coins to keep as a memento

I have bought a few coins from him and I'm fully aware of his grading practices. Bearing this in mind I have been more than happy with my purchases.

World Coin Pricing Guide...NGC
Peter replied to RLC35's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
As Bob says...its free. I might use it ....but who looks at pricing books for more than a guide & the coins I want I already know how much I'm willing to pay (and most varieties don't appear in price books). -
Nice work Rob...always interesting. Have you an aquaintence called Watson and are you an occasional user of cocaine?
