Its a specialised area of which our US buddies seem keaner on....maybe its because the "coins" are over 200 years old of which they have very little.
-
I think Rob has explained it is unlikely to be of value. The copper coins of this period were in shortage and the copper often worth more than the coin....hence there are numerous counterfeits in existance (slightly smaller, thinner and lighter)...many circulated and were readily accepted (like fake £1 coins today). Keep your eyes peeled and the next coin maybe a guineau.

Nice thrupenny bits Miss Jesus.

what are these coins / tokens?
Peter replied to sweetcheeks82's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
I believe the WR stands for Westaire Reproductions. -
Not a lot it would seem. According to the description it's "the withdrawn" type. The Pope would approve though! I don't think he would rubber stamp it though.

1823 Farthing Georgius IIII
Peter replied to Forna's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Welcome to the forum Forna A sensible series to collect and a welcome departure from the 1d boys who thrust their wares upon us. Your coin indeed has eye appeal and I would grade at NEF/EF. The eye appeal is important to me...there are plenty of EF's without it. George 1111 is also a fairly easy series to obtain...if you haven't already seen it try aboutfarthings which is an excellent resource run by one of this forums members (Colin)...he will probably snipe you on Ebay at some time...or I will. -
Spot on grading Just proves the punters out there have no idea....a polished NF. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1900-Victoria-Old-Widow-Head-adamcoinsgb-EF-/260781101273?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3cb7c3d0d9

I just bought one of these off the bay for £6 delivered (from a mint bag) bearing in mind there was only 10,000 minted compared to 200,000 mule 20p's get in now Against my better judgement this will hopefully return a nice profit to buy something...predecimal Please everyone leak this to the press.

If your album will take 2x2 flips problem solved. I use these for the majority of my coins (although I have 4 linder trays and 14 other types of tray...10 in aluminium cases ) Linder capsules with inserts would cost me more than an Oxford shilling.

Hi Michael Colin Cooke has an UNC lustre 38 for £2.

Any Information On This Coin/Value?
Peter replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Its an extremely poor example of a 1863 bun penny and of negligable value. Back to work tomorrow I'm afraid. -
Mine hasn't appeared yet and the ones I have got I want to keep.

Hi Unc. 46,49,50 & 51 are the hardest 3d's. The rest should be fairly easy in EF+ Take anything F+ on the above 4 but don't pay over the odds for a circulated one (maybe a few £) Good luck...its a sensible series to whet your collecting fix.

Anyone seen anything like this before?
Peter replied to azda's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries

Old English Pennies £5 bags uncirculated
Peter replied to Jim's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That is 2400 coins. However they just don't sell. The copper scrap value is probably £100 ish. Good luck in shifting them...you will need it. -
GF+ but not NVF....Don't you love Ebay grading. His fine must be a tap washer.
-
This isn't an Ebay laugh However any specialised shilling collector should know his subject. It would be an idea to contact the seller or even give him a link to the forum.
-
Over 1000 buys/sells and only 1 problem (a fantastic Liz 1 penny in EF...bah) 0.01% failure isn't bad.

Metal Detectorists row over split of treasure trove profits
Peter replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
As Mr Darke only found 9 coins the 1st day and obviously wanted to enlist help.I feel he should be willing to split the reward 50/50 unless he suggested some kind of "prenup". This gives detectorists a bad image.....however the press are feeding off Mr Darke's appearance. With large lumps of money at stake who knows how people will react. As aside would you tuck away a couple for your own collection? -
To be honest I and the majority of collectors wouldn't know a 164a if it tapped me on the shoulder. There are probably thousands out there lurking in jars (or my loft). Making an effort with my Freeman and pennies looks like another job.

1654 Commonwealth Halfcrown.
Peter replied to azda's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
There are plenty of coins I have missed out on or the dealer has sold them.....even walking around a coin fair. Overall things balance out. I suppose ebay can be the most frustrating. Mr Cooke was selling CNUT pennies for £60 a few years ago I did buy a few bits of gold. 1758 shillings and 1746 LIMA halfcrowns make silly money. 1960 crowns 1950 & 51 1ds and 1946 and 49 3d's seem to be todays turkeys.
