    40 years on

It took the fun out of collecting for a young collector as my sources were famiy, neighbours etc who pulled Vickies from change. Getting coins from amusement arcades was also the highlight of a trip to the coast. My parents bought me a coin album for my fourth birthday. So I managed a few years of searching for date runs and upgrades.
  4. Simon good to see you posting...a forum god in the making.

    "Rare" and "Scarce"

They just don't understand, do they? Having indicated how much a specific lot was likely to go for, I was told to go out and get it. Having duly bought it for 25% less than I expected to pay, I was told I was spending too much on coins. I guess the first sentence being on Tuesday and the second on the Thursday after the sale - I hadn't been around during that day to get in the **** until then. Wimmin...they wouldn't know a Queen Anne if they farted one...although my daughters are taking an interest in Dads coins.

    undated 20p coin

Don't just look at the value. The history bit is far nicer...when you can afford a Queen Anne farthing or a 1717 farthing you have arrived....hang on I'm here
  8. After spending an enjoyable evening cleaning carpets and a fortune on cleaning fluid (we have a springer who swims in the local river and luvs wabbits and birdies)...hence mucky paws. Is laminate or wood flooring the best for our lounge and dining room. The dining room leads off to the conservatory where he exits and enters for a wee. The laminates at homebase or Topps tiles seem a good option...but as you only do it once is proper wood any better...and yes I will get a skin in to lay it. Homebase are offering 15% discount this weekend..any tips or experiences would be appreciated.
  9. It could be fun to do a post of the day whether informative or funny....Dereck I like your reasoning but please tell me where your source of magic mushrooms are.

Try uploading a picture at coinpeople....Predecimal isn't a banknote forum although if British we could give a value. Condition is everything...so don't iron it.

Silly money is being paid for scrap silver on the bay and even coin news.In 2007 I did a charity car boot with a box of coins and £20 of scrap silver...I was only after 5x face and this included pre 1920.Glad it didn't sell

    Collectors Coins GB 2011

Amazon have offered a refund...but I will hang in there. Any new major varieties are always welcome....I'm sure with a bit of forum help it can go further...maybe back to 1672...anything post 1967 can go. 1/4ds and 1/2ds from CC sales catalogues?
  15. It is a cracking strike. Get it slabbed and put it on US ebay
  16. Which fair did you do?..The Midland has a closed shop. Its like a car boot for the 1st 1/2hr with dealers swarming everywhere whilst wives and partners stay at their tables. PS I can't expand your thumbnails.

    Copies of coins

Tom How obvious are these copies (pewter?) or actual silver.I've come accross a copy Liz 3d...the picture was blurred but the portrait looked good. I was refunded..the lady had found it her late husbands belongings.

    undated 20p coin

Depends on condition...a florin from circulation is worth £1 or £2 ....the German banknote I don't know.
  21. This is getting to Captain Pugwash mentality...I will tell my buddies Mike Hunt and Jenny Tailor about you lot.
  22. Peter

    undated 20p coin

The undated tails side is worth 20p...the undated both sides will get £40 to £60 but be aware this will drop back to £15 to £30.Why mugs were paying £300+ defeats me.

    Nice Plug

The plug is GF....I thought my tin farthing was rubbish....I've stuck to copper including a few Lennoxs, Richmonds etc I really need to source a few varieties indicated from Colin's site.My half dozen 1859's include shamrock attached and unattached...not that I had really noticed....why I have 6 is a mystery...don't tell me about 1720 or 1721...I have more than you could shake a stick at. My parents have given me £100 for coins (birthday and Xmas) every year for the last 20 years...I did buy gold and hammered....a nice return.
