    Man finds 2300+ Roman coins.

Those thieving Welsh had been raiding in England no doubt
  2. Imagine 70,000 coin collectors on the raz. If your coin was better than mine it would "kick off big time" BTW my two tips have stumbled.

Fantastic coin Graylord....but how can you not metal detect for 29 years and not become a coin collector? You are obviously quite well informed and I bet you have a rough idea on most coins you find. I've bought a few treasure hunter & searcher mags & even a cheap Hi spec chinese detector (never used it in anger) To find a coin like this is it the research you put in on a site ? or is it pot luck ?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

    A bargain...one for Chris http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Churchill-Coin-dated...1QQcmdZViewItem
  5. I'm going to put a bit on Aussie to beat Italy.... Spain e/w to win the cup. But my hopes stay with England..it just needs that little push and confidence injection.

I took a chance with this guy (he was quoting grades given by known companies in the 70's...Farthing specialist etc) Recieved today a lovely Unc toned 1898 6d for buttons ...which looked like the green godess on the scan.

    Iraqi Dinar

I saw him many years ago whilst on holiday in Yarmouth. The only thing I can really remember was this bear called Cudgie which at the time was quite frightening.
  8. Its not British. It looks like copper.(Verdigris) Probably a Jetton.
  9. I'm loving every minute. I agree with Rob on the Bud though.

Nope...this scam has been going around for a long time. Rolf Harris (prints on canvas) limited editions of 295....Rolf will be going down under (if you see what I mean) in the forseeable future....get on it.

    I'm back.

Yes Predecimal has been sold to the Chinkies for a small amount....and you're GURLFRIEND said it was fantatastic that I was so patient and understanding.
  12. Hmmm........this would need a bit of an intro on Ebay....one to be bought thru a dealer methinks.
  13. and I've just got an EMAIL saying that Mr Postie has a beaut of a Vickie copper piece being delivered to Peter Towers......Rob...LOTS.....you are making me jealous
  14. Top notch coins. & Croker was a talented man. In the days before internet and pictures in catalogues I used to grade my dealers...Colin was a couple of grades up on some of the others. I only ever sent 1 coin back. G1 is really difficult to grade....don't be too harsh. They rarely fit into Spinks pricing structure eg a typical valuation F £30 VF £125 EF £350....something between a grade is hard to value...and then there is porosity (or lack of),striking flaws, off centres, trace of the dreaded green, weak strikes, etc etc. I would have bought them (with Mrs Peters permission of course)

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

    £32 for postage and insurance....bargain.
  17. I love slabbing but please keep it in the US and with modern coins.
  18. In my opinion all George 1 are rare in anything AF+ A GF is a sort after coin (ditto CH 2nd) and any date readable William.
  19. Both coins have eye appeal...but both have problems of sorts. I would grade them in the region GF to NVF (with the overdate slightly higher of the 2). Yes.... I could easily find a space in my collection for them.(especially the P821)
  20. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...Y_BIN_Stores_IT I don't think you paid too much
  21. Rob My point was that it is rare to get George 1 farthings which sit exactly on a grade.... I go for eye appeal everytime. A 1721 farthing was used because its my favourite date...I do like George 1 copper. (I can still remember buying a 1721 at the age of 10 whilst on holiday in Bournmouth) Regarding currency the 1721 1/4d has 8 varieties (listed in CC catalogue 37) 3 are designated Peck nrs. I'm always on the look out for these. Peter Ireland unwittingly sold a rare one on the net about a year ago, only 2 of us realised but I got out sniped....Grrrrr (I do have a lesser grade example though). I usually ignore Spink when chasing varieties
  22. Thanks Coppers. I will only collect nice raw US. I've got a few targets.
  23. I hate the way US collectors try and grade ie how many letters of liberty are still clear. and putting coins into neat catagories....this to me seems impossible unless there are thousands of each grade. Rant over. My 1721 vf 1/4d is nicer than your 1721 vf 1/4d....I've never seen 2 the same or been rich enough to own them.
  24. Its got to be shill bidding. A couple of complete novices ...although the vendor has bought some quality optical products
