Queen Vic Copper Farthings
Peter replied to Gary's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
A few unfortunate dings but still a nice NEF. I personally would prefer the coin in GVF with no dings. -
Hi You appear to have Uk florins( the predecimal equivalent of 10p) Both these coins are extremely common and worth very little. I hope this helps.

On another site there has been talk of Ebay vouchers which anyone can use if paying by paypal. The current series are valid for a few more days.(18/12/05 I think) I've used this one twice and got 10% off the bid value (Ebay, paypal pick up the tab) C11-Giftguide There is also C23-Giftguide (15% off over 100$) C22-Giftguide (10% off over $50) Just type in the code in the coupon redeem area. If buying a Wreath a bit of a saving!!!!! They actually work and there doesn't seem to be any catch. I will keep the codes updated here.

I noted a tempting lot on Ebay today 8362328864....Could it be ? What are your thoughts on the Liz 2/6....almost certainly a replica I concluded . But what if it wasn't ?

Peter replied to Gary D's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
There are 3 1977 crowns Currency and presentation folder are the same coins. Normal proof (issued with the 1977 proof year set) Silver proof (get it with the case of issue to insure its the silver one) & 2 1980 crowns Currency and presentation folder are the same coins. Silver Proof -
Rob I note the pellets in your coin are considerably larger? I've spent hours pouring over books and not concluding my investigations with my own coins. I suppose that is the part of the joy of collecting hammered.... Considering each coin was individually made...how many were struck before a bit of maintenance was made to the die's ?

Even cut into 6" squares it won't cut your ****. With better quality paper and pictures it would be the Standard reference for UK coins.

is it society?.....why would anyone mention they drove a BMW ? To55er or aged Hoodie....or both? I suppose designer wear clothes and alco pops should be mentioned somewhere. Jeeeze

Hang on UNK.....these are worth £2 each....maybe the seller made a mistake at £20.

I found collecting varieties in less than GVF a dangerous game.....even Peck and recently Cooke stood by this. See P Lawrence's collection which were often questioned by Colin Cooke.

What got you into collecting in the first place?
Peter replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I've had more regrets than disappointments. Keep a sensible head on....once you've developed an eye follow your instincts. Is it me...I find the lighting at The Midland & Wakefield fairs dreadfull. -
What got you into collecting in the first place?
Peter replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
My family and my families friends collected all the predecimal Victorian coins in the late 60's for me (I was a slip of a lad) By the time I was 16 (late 70,s) I collected and bought what I could afford...mainly UK copper. The rest is history....I've collected hard and then dropped it for Girls,Bikes,Cars,Beer,Career...BUT ...always returned. Where do I look for coins? Everywhere....from Car boots, flea markets, coin fairs,dealers,ebay......no hard and fast rule (my tastes are a bit more expensive nowadays).....use google initially....it is worth asking elderly reletives. It's all good luck and part of the fun. This site has a reasonably priced selection of mainly UK coins (where you won't get burnt by the Ebay sharks) A good starting point methinks. Enjoy -

If the weight is 3.6 grammes it is an error coin. Any less it's been machined down. There is no set value for errors...on Ebay you just chance it and hope for more than one bidder.

I think the UK based Guernsey collector is currently on his annual holiday in Slough.

Yeh Chris....When are you going to send it?

Don't you have to give the neg man him a bit more time? He has made contact.......and maybe there is a valid reason he didn't make it. -
On the home page of this site look at the advice hub and grading guide. I've lost count of the times people have reckoned they have excellent coins which turn out to be less than fine.
