  1. One for the 50p tin methinks.....
  2. Gold is a very soft metal....and the higher the purity the softer it gets. If is just a type example you won't find one MUCH....cheaper but gold dealers often treat worn coins with contempt and there are bargains to be had. Good luck.

    Happy Birthday Sylvester!

PS. I bought a 10ft dia pool with a decent depth £50 (it takes about 1000 gallons) about 2 weeks ago...with filter....Just had to spend another £45 on Chemicals.....best investment ever. I'm waiting for this months coin news so I can read it in the pool with a nice chilled G & T...we grow our own lemons. STRESs level dropping.

    Happy Birthday Sylvester!

No ideas Syl but whipped cream is always in the Tesco's cart.....My 7&9 year olds get it squirted in their mouths and on Stawberries.....both have to run around in the shower to get wet.....Its also a bonus on those hot balmy nights when Mrs Peter has been known to get a bit friskey. Andy I can't make a Yorkie...we are away the following week and Sis from Harrogate has a boot load of booze they are dropping down..Minovoius at 70p a chuck and respectable beer at £3 for 24 together with some proper Normandy corked Cider (not strong but deliciuous cooking with Pork). I look after Mum most of the year and its my reward......Not that I'm cooking a blasted meal for about 20 people this weekend and wasting my precious minovoius....and I know my Malt Whiskys will be attacked.....family I hope to do a Midland soon......I like it better than Wakefield/Harrogate(still brilliant) York or London never tried. Got to get my coins off the dinning table otherwise Mrs Peter has decided they are black bin fodder.....on the plus both my minx's help with the cataloguing....although I think the eldest has sussed value

    Happy Birthday Sylvester!

21 is the big one.....I hope everyone has rallied and filled your coin buying coffers......and a pretty young lady is treating you (or even cooking you) a sumptious meal with loads of jelly & whipped cream.

    I'm away for a week.

Have a great break Chris....We're off to Devon in early August.....CAN'T WAIT. Honest opinion on the MGF.....as good as the MAZDA/Toyota? When things settle down I need a performance ...at the moment Lotus....or a 100+ BHP motorcycle....can't be havin this mid life chrisis...or upsetting Mrs PETER...too expensive.
  7. My biggest gripe was getting home from school and then there was a power cut so we missed Scooby Doo ....if it wasn't for those meddling unions.
  8. Just read it Ted Heath RIP.
  9. I know your sentiments but Ted and Maggie take all the anti Tory snub...remember the pitful oposistion. Every goverment will F**k any hard worker from now. Buy some top quality coins now....I've stopped the Mrs Stakeholder pension and it now goes against the mortgage. Absolute boll**cks. Who is going to pay for the forthcoming shambles, I'm all right at the moment.....we need some new incentives not bloody £200 to have a kid. We get £120 a month family allowance...why? Get people off the social and pay the necessities in Tesco vouchers so there is no shame...a cooked chicken is only £2...bread 20p....Fags are £4 ? Special brew ? I,m getting to a stage where I will inherit a few bob and get outa here....No world is perfect but if the cream are encouraged to the top at least it filters down. I've just found out my eldest has been graded....to assist the less gifted....I can't believe it .....collection going and private education from 13.
  10. Hi Chris I've just recieved the Roman base metal and Roman Silver books and my first impression is excellent. The quality of the Silver book is a noticeable improvement. I will let you know how I get on trying to use them (Base metal mainly at present ) Thanks Peter
  11. Get yourself to a coinfair.. a lot of the stuff that appears on Ebay can be found in the dealers 5op,£1 or £2 tins. The fairs are regularily in London/Birmingham,Wakefield and York. Off course there are some great dealers on Ebay and some absolute crooks. No one deals in coins within 30 miles of me but keep your eyes open at antique fairs etc. As Sylvester says buy off here. Get a few dealers lists....they all grade differently but I take that into consideration when purchasing.. & Syl leave those pre revolution Frenchies alone.
  12. If your serious about coins buy your books, make friends, find a couple of good dealers and learn your subject...Ebay can be a minefield as well as a goldmine.

    Hi Im new...

You should enjoy the disco's in Bulgaria....white flares and a medallion......I've just dropped some acid and your avtar was doing my head
  14. Lauers coins were tiny...a medallion even of German origin?
  15. Lisab My 2004 Spink Guide values this coin as follows; F £125 VF £250 EF £500 UNC £825 Don't overgrade!! especially gold it marks so easily. Look on this site at the artical on grading. I'll take a risk and give you a tenner for it
  16. If the 1/2 Sovereign dated is dated 1918 it would of been minted in Austrailia....Perth in fact ...it will have a small p below the date. It looks like the most valuable year for George V and could be worth several hundred pounds. Do not attempt to polish it....gold is soft and marks easily. Gold sovereign coins were minted in several Austrailian mints from about the 1870's and also in South Africa in the 20 C. I'm not an expert on gold....hope this helps.
  17. I warned people about this guy months ago.....No real knowledge of coins and a complete Tw....t. For months he has been buying replica 1551 crowns for 99p and selling them on for 9.99. Caveat emptor. Ebay to me has been a great experience and bargains can still be had.....Don't forget your dealers and coin fairs though. I still search the listings but more of my purchases are coming from regular dealers.....who don't have web sites I've a feeling Chris has his favourites?
  18. Hi Chris My CCGB 2005 has actually fallen to bits....but I shall be buying every years edition.. The Red book Spiral bound is about the best I've come accross. Looking forward to my Roman Bronze and Silver Books Keep this up....excellent.

    Housing Sovereigns

Chris I have no plans in popping off yet and like Rob I've got to trim my collection down and get rid of duplicates. You will be the first to know.
  20. By 60 pences do you mean 5 Shillings ? There were 240 pennies to the pound 12 pennies to a shilling 480 half pennies to a £ 960 farthings to a £ Don't forget there were no supermarkets in those days and people used to live off the land (and their wits) to a certain extent. In the 40/50's my dad was sent out snaring rabbits or catching fish for the table. There certainly were not fat waddling kids stuffing their faces in Burger King whilst texting their mates.

Hi Rob I use flips now for the bulk of my coins. You can get 20 2x2 flips in a page. Its not like the old days of PVC. I still use Linder trays for my farthings and have 3 Aluminium boxes which take 6 flock trays each for other nice bits. The rest are in coin flips in Albums..even my hammered. Everything is portable and should Mr Thief visit it wouldn't be a "Pick up my Coin cabinet" and walk away. I don't catalogue BU now...just UNC. I also think flips can contain information to non collectors...ie Mrs Peter. If something happened to me she at least has some ID.

I would go for the modern (as Yanks call em Mylars) I personally use Britannia coin flips at £5.50 per 100. In the states they are $2.50 max per 100(about £1.50)....bleedin posatage...kills it. On this site there are excellent Hartberger self sealers (no staples ) at the cheapest prices.
  23. I think a few pictures may assist...however the Georgivs 1797 is almost certainly a brass gaming counter and worth max £1. The French coin was often in circulation (and excepeted prior to 1971) and worth little unless in perfect condition. The 1701 & 85 I would need to see. The 1701 sounds like a 1/2d of which many varieties exist...condition is the key....

    Human powered flight.

Apparently a couple of UNC 1934 Crowns will fly you around the world...a couple of times. I think Drew Barrymore invested in a couple of the flying bike prototypes. Glorious kids fete today...I was on the coconut shy...my poor back....and agressive 5 year olds. Relaxed in our new 10ft dia pool this evening....highly recommened....reaches up to the nether regions. Its gonna be hot for a few days
