My limited gold is in flock coin trays buried under other coin trays. I look at them and handle quite often....carefully.... If your gold is an investment lock it away otherwise enjoy it....and maybe get younger family members involved who will inherit it. My 9 year old is busily catalogueing. My 7 year old goes for £1 coins everytime.

No longer a forty something.

On Colincookes web site there are quite a few 1 rupees they are a nice looking coin and fairly cheap if Gothic's your thing.

We were a Mongrol nation of Saxons,Vikings,Jutes,Celts,Romans etc etc ....a few Normans and the English blend was slowly simmered through the Dark ages....which eventually eventually became Britain after a few punch ups. Funny old world....and has left us with some fantastic coins

Lets hope Tony and Cherie give a double barrel of their smarmy grins to Chirac. The Frenchies thought they had it in the bag. We've got Trafalger square and Waterloo Station....maybe a new facility called Agincourt ?

Iteresting coin Rob....but nothing to google on.

It's going to fantastic. The investments will boost our economy beyond belief. Now we've just got to provide the athlete's or at least undetectable drugs

Hi I've seen people call Fine condition UNC. Just because its nearly 150 years old doesn't help. The majority of coins in your pocket less than 10 years old will be in less than VF condition. All the same the 1858 1d is a splendid coin with a gorgeous Victoria....(I think there was a bit of artistic license) and impressive Britannia.

Peck Second Edition
Peter replied to Half Penny Jon's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Its not an essential book but worthwhile. I use mine less than I thought I would but I would never part with it. Get the £115 one....and give it your own coffee/red wine stains. -
There has got to be a more tangible reason....years ago I believe the Farthing Specialist made the 1734 1/4d a key date... by hoarding and releasing them slowly into the market at inflated prices.None of the coin catalogues picked up on this. The 1837 halfcrown is a similar coin look at CCGB prices this was based upon Colin Cooke having a GF listed for £100+ ???? Spink haven't caught up yet (well not in the 2004 edition). I was sniped on Ebay by CC for a 1914 Unc 1/4d £14 !!!!!!! about 18 months ago. Is there a huge stash of 1914,15 1/4d's lurking in the Manchester area ?

You didn't see the Peck on the back seat obviously. I don't think Dot did either....but Zoe certainly would have been welcome. (There was inuendo there that I resisted.) I do hope you are all keeping up with the thread. Its a pity Kenneth Moore and Sid James aren't still about. Honestly....its on in the background as I ponder the meaning of life....such as why are 1914 & 15 types of farthing in decent condition as rare as hens teeth. No reason why the commoner types shouldn't be about....and I need the touching 15 TT.

Or am I ?

The gothic side is the appeal...although I do hanker for dots

Nothing really stands out . Maybe the best coins are 1916 shilling and the 1926 & 1953 penny. If you could post a half decent obverse(heads) of the 1926 we could check if it is the modified and rarer version. I imagine a novice would find it difficult...google 1926 ME and try yourself. I would imagine if you listed that lot on Ebay you might get £5 to £10. If the 1926 penny is the rare version it would be worth about £10. Hope this helps.

The poor mans Gothic Florin...a beautiful coin and vastly underpriced...well.....compared to gothics.

Kebabs....Ambrosia of the Peteritus...especially after a few lukewarm real ales . Less beer and its the healthy chicken skewer...over 4 pints and its the full Donar with plenty of Chiili sauce.

Its all Greek to me. I know by heart Caveat emptor....you must go thru life with that firmly in your mind. From getting a mortgage to insurance and pensions.....read around your subject first.

Peck Second Edition
Peter replied to Half Penny Jon's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
There was a Peck on Ebay about 2 weeks ago it didn't make its reserve....Final Bid about £65 I think. My wife tracked mine down at Spink (it wasn't on their website) following advice from Colin Cooke !!!! She phoned their book department and they were very helpful. They had a few then...she bought me the best one . I was just going around in circles trying to find one. Think how many Pecks you will buy ???? Its a great book and another bit of the Numistmatic jigsaw. -

That makes me giggle. We used to sneek out and the eldest looking used to place a bet at the bookies.(He is now a Corals manager and his dad was a copper !!!!!) We actually started winning so lunch was Cod n Chips (no McDonalds then) but after a few weeks we were down to a bag of chips between the lot of us. Happy Days
