Common slang for a £1 coin is nugget and 50p is half a bar...well it used to be whilst playing Brag down the pub. We had a strict no shrapnel rule and woe betide anyone who tried to use it.

Hobbies, Other Interests

I fish as well (Sea,coarse..also dabble with game) You should be able to get started on Metal Detecting for under £50.There are plenty of Chinese gizzmo's now on the market which make 5 year old UK machines obsolete.(I got one from Maplin electronics after the treasure hunting press raved about it approx a year ago)..still haven't used it properly...works well in the garden though and re-found my wedding ring. If you enjoy it you can always upgrade. I find the venues are difficult to locate although this would,t be such a problem on the beach....although my rod tips go like fiddlers elbows so I wouldn't have much detecting time. -
I've had a few problems whilst using Ebay for coins (buying only)....usually with the bottom of the market cheapies or bargains. I don't feel the feedback system is very efficient because giving a negative means you will probably get one back. I've got a current problem where the seller sent me a rubbish coin and not the one pictured.I've emailed him but I'm not going to get worked up over a couple of quid. Has anyone got any ideas on a hall of shame we could produce? I could list a load of id's of people who I deem dodgy....I've just noticed a New id for a guy selling US gold coins!!! his new guise is unmistakingly him.

He was more than a dealer and would freely discuss any aspect of coins. His knowledge is irreplaceable. For those of you old enough he used to supply The Farthing Specialist with some of his stock and he once told me of deals he would crack out on Saturday evenings. He also pointed my wife in the right direction when she bought me Pecks second edition as a supprise. An absolute gentleman.

This is an absolute shock. I've spoken to him many times. He will be sadly missed...words fail me.

Stujoe suspected Austrian Hackers.. . Obviously the snow has melted and the auditions for "The Sound of Music " have closed.

MS64 proof is far from perfect...(in the US system)..fine for currency but proofs?
-
Unless the proof is absolutley perfect I don't see the point....it would always nag me(especially the £150/200 of nagging... ) Its a coin I would rather see in the flesh. Nice though...he says as he sneeks off to make a postal bid.

Hi George Your 1/4d is the second issue type.(date in legend) The first issue had the date in the exergue. All William 1/4ds are rare....and unfortunatly often in poor condition. Peck lists 5 varients for this date/issue BMC 681 TO 685 (682 being a silver proof) he differentiates between full stops and whether the second A in Britannia is barred or not....you do need examples in Gf+ to be sure (and these are expensive) A nice coin all the same ps just noted there is a nice picture in my 2004 Spink (ref 3558) Peter -

I must of had 100,s of Pre 47 silver...but I always spent it . I can honestly say I never saw any pre 1920 silver until I bought it. The local Silver /gold shop sold me pre 1920 2/6's for £2 each...he had bought a massive collection from Ireland...I did 1912 to 1920 in UNC for £20 -

I'm personally paying in over 4k per year into a pension fund...part of my companies perks!!!!!! We are a commercial company...but even they can't see it. My tip for investment...Rolf Harris limited editions,Gold, pre 19C furniture..and good quality Victorian Erotica....well thats my tip
-
It will come....its called means testing. We live in a crazy world...we will end up with the haves & have nots. I can gaurantee pensionable age will soon move to 70 even 75. All the money hard working people pay in will be frittered out amongst (those who don't deserve)...make your own list !!!! Like money thrown at NHS/education...You can't polish a turd. The biggest fraud...private pensions is waiting to happen. Start looking after nr 1. Rant over...the sun is shining...its Bar B que time []

I lived thru it ...albeit very young......there are extremely thick people about...always were & always will be. Everyone at the time were "Checking their change"....I was the 7 year old benefactor who never said NO. -
Trouble is..if you try and limit people who vote....facist......
-
The result is blue...but i would like to think I am purple with a hint of Green & a splodge of BNP....oOOPs
-
I hope he kept a copy....you would think he would unless he was a right spanner.

Geoff What colour Citroen do you drive ? We live in a democratic society where everyone has the vote....and its everyone right. (thank goodness) Its a pity a newspaper like the Sun can have such an effect. Personally I would like a bit of Right Wing hard lining together with a bit of Socialist compassion. In a Capitalist system the best should & will rise to the top...we must encourage this for our societies benefit....wealth eventually will cascade down. Everyone now seems to want something for nothing and want it now....and feel its their devine right. (I dispair at the designer label brigade) Get rid of PC rubbish, enforce discipline with zero tolerance....educate people to respect.... If you can't afford to raise kids don't have them....or at least expect everyone else to pay. Maggie wasn't so bad...it just seems trendy to think she was.

Did he used to "Jam" with Cockney Rebel (for the oldies)

Its a choice between having you're teeth pulled,a large injection or chewing wasps. Whoever wins lets hope its closer. We all know it will be Mr Smarm...pity he doen't lead the Tories.
