  1. I have a few tokens, mainly where I can associate with the area I live or a significant other. My appetite has been whetted hence enter Peter stage right.
  2. My daughter was quoted £1200 for repairs to her Astra engine. I checked the internet/Vauxhall forums and discovered similar/identical problems. Not so easy fix but got it done for less than £400. I lent her Mrs Peters old car whilst hers was being fixed which she duly wrote off. Nothing seems to be straight forward but hey...money is for spending.
  3. Richard...The turbo and bits should be readily available from a scrapper...Check with your garage as well. Could save you a few shillings.
  4. Richard,I had a turbo go on a company car years ago,The turbo was replaced but it was never the same.Soon the bu**er blew up completely. If properly maintained it should outlast the engine. I firmly believe the garage who serviced the car were useless. After one service they left the sump plug not tightened and I lost my oil on the M11.
  5. Looks like it was suspended at one time in its life. May well be rejected by auction houses. Gold will be seen thru "gold tinted" glasses so you never know but less than £1K.
  6. A bit off the wall topic but hopefully it can start something. Over the years I've sent a few freebies to young (I assume) members on the forum. I've also given the local schools some coins when my daughters told me what period of history they were learning about. A while ago a new lady started working with my daughter.Talk went around to families and my daughter mentioned that I collected coins. The lady mentioned her 12 yr old son had been routing through her change looking for the best examples. Basically that is how I started many years ago so I have added my best examples to a pot and my daughter takes these in weekly for him. After a couple of weeks I got a phone call from this lad thanking me and he enthusiastically told me what he had. I felt good for this so I went through my vast mountain of predecimal coins and packaged up coins of every reign going back to William 111 and a couple of hammered and Roman. I snuck in a couple of better coins and some silver together with an old copy of collectors coins. A couple of weeks ago I received a lovely thank you card from the lad. Now it seems I've made a win,win situation as he now makes his parents a cup of tea every Sunday morning so they take him to local car boot fairs. The best thing about it he also takes a couple of pals along who have caught the bug. Apparently his pals parents have now taken up the duty of taking the lads on a rota basis thus leaving Mums and Dads to have some quality Sunday morning times .
  7. 801 years love it. The fake is worth watching out for.
  8. Adam that is a beautiful example and has a lot going for it. I would expect it will appreciate because there will be a lot of slobbering H/C boys (as the Mancs say "Mad for it")
  9. Watch Vicky go at Baldwins and DNW flashing his mighty $....Plenty of Bronze competition with Chris's new book.
  10. Worth the wait Nons. Super coins.
  11. I've got to laugh. I can actually remember buying my 1901 1/4d for 10p in the 70's whilst on holiday with my parents in Bournemouth. I also bought a Cartwheel 1d and a Geo 1 1721 farthing at the same time (all my holiday money spent in one go ) The 1901 is one coin I will never update as it had no spots (unlike me at the time) and holds council in my farthing conglomerate.
  12. Bugg*r I want a PCGS one. Oh well,I shall put in a bid and if I win it Pete can have it as a gift.
  13. I find it difficult to question its authenticity.
  14. Peter

    Help!!

I personally can't see a problem with laminating but I question why they are deteriorating. I have coin tickets (card discs) over 100 yrs old and apart from a bit of foxing they are fine. I would imagine coin authenticity certificates are modern (coins/tokens sold by SOME of the rip off organisations) which are worth diddly in the 1st instance. As Matteo95 suggests examples would assist with further advice.
  15. Bob thats interesting about Semra. A warning to us all whilst on our exotic adventures ie to steer clear of tainted, fiery soup.
  16. Keep the magnifyer away from the window when sunny. Some of the members here are Northerners and they won't understand.
  17. Dave The dealers counter offer was £400
  18. You are smokin...slow down and get yourself to a coinfair. You will need a loupe/glass or what ever.(I have a selection of China 99p cheapies) plus some top of the range bits of kit.The cheapies are evenly distributed over the house. You need to get a feel for what a coin pertains to be.There is no problem in buying VF's the problem is buying VF's for Unc £. Think about recording your purchases.Buy willy nilly will always come back and bite you.
  19. Two cracking coins Gents, pity the monyers lost their way for a few centuries.
  20. A bit heavy on the price, maybe it is the pictures but I suspect it has been treated to a swim in Godards silver dip. I don't mind the product and it can be used to improve a coin with isolated bad staining. I would want the bees knees for £140. An unc example books at £100. If it looks nice in hand (maybe not so bright).
  21. Manchester with Spanish bolthole. "Mad for it" with 1d's. No doubt associated with TG and his love of Charlie. You never know but if CGS change for the better I might even consider getting a couple of coins slabbed for my daughters (Of course I will retain, hopefully for many years)
  22. Dodgy handshake Paulus?
  23. You can specify the sizes you want. Although mahogany/rosewood are the prefered timber ,why not just sandwich the coins on a glass/hardboard frame. The backing colour can be a card of your choice and a dab of glue will hold the reverse sides into place. Then add an example of each of the obverse types. Obviously I would aim for nice clear coin of each type which do not need to be BU to show their asthetics. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Coinholders-20-2x2-Flips-Adhesive-For-Gold-Silver-Coins-/280524045031?hash=item4150893ae7:g:N7EAAOSwwE5WZeWu
  24. I've done this by putting them into 2x2 cardboard flips/mylars.You can also write information on these. The self adhesive type are prefered. I did this for a friend who is into George 11 furniture. If you go this way I will happily send you a few sizes and between us wonderful forum folks can cover all sizes.
  25. LCAexit...shock horror.Maybe a remain protest at Sundays Midland. With the $/Euro so high against the £ internet auctions will face a lot of competion outside from the UK (and I don't mean ebay)
