Happy New Year All!
Peter replied to TomGoodheart's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Best wishes to all of you and your families. Daughters are working so it is a bit quiet here.I hope next year brings happiness to all. -
Seasons greetings to all. I've got my chefs hat on today

I forgot Exceter....Geordie had problems tracking this one down. Best to do your own research.

It is the case that what turns up for sale and what doesn't. London and Canterbury seem to be everywhere. Whereas Bury mint in a nice condition seem to be rare (the moneyers on Abbot ale?) Rarer mints...a few to consider....Bristol.Lincoln.Newcastle. BUT the rarer mints just didn't produce the quantities. Look at some of the premier hammered dealers sites and make your own decision. Until 50.000 coins are found in a hoard. Maybe Clive from Historic Coinage can help.I assure you there isn't a better dealer or bloke out there.

Sovereigns were such a world wide standard...copies probably circulated as the real thing. Of course Predecimal.com didn't exist and the weight was approx correct.

These were produced (this one poorly) in the Far East. I would doubt the gold content.

I bought a special magnet from the US to check coins. It was the size of a watch battery.Bu**ed if I can find it. There is also a tissue test to check for silver. All this info is on Coincommunity.com If you can wade past the love from US collectors for modern coins it is a good site.

There should be no problem on refunds as it must of been slabbed. It must of been a contemporary copy as even Ali Ba Ba wouldn't recreate a worn example. I think you have a few miles to go to sort this.

Still not warm enough for wearing ones mankini.

Enjoy your day Bob

Boll*cks so my journey will have to start at 7ish. I have never met Rob although been in contact over the years. Is it true Rob is so tall he is snow capped.?
-
Pete I think he only sells at fairs. You have to delve into his unpriced stocks that are not displayed. I have got some nice large US cents,Unc pre 47 AG & cracking 1/4D's. Once you are known to him the trust on both sides exists....as it should be.

Ian is my usual 1st port of call. Really nice bloke...if you can get past dealers who are still surrounding his tables at 10.02am..
-
I disagree with Sunday finishes as so many coins go through. I prefer listing on a Monday night for 10 days (finish on a Thursday evening)

Bob that must of been stashed in a virgins silk knickers for the last 94 years. Stunning example.
-
It is better than VF but looks cleaned.
-
Swanny It is nice when that happens

Rob Look at the hand because the face ain't listening. I get this after buying Mrs Peter's luuvley daughters with their 1st cars. I check the roof lininigs for footprints. But hey...What will be.

A lot of the dealers have junk boxes. I'm sure they will be interested in Ag coins. I've done straight swaps but bear in mind they need a profit but you avoid the perils and of ebay.

Honesty or knowledge

I once emailed a seller who had a Wiliam 1 coin and believed the Spink nr was the date. He was grateful as the last hr brought him good bids and he was a happy seller. He got a copy of Spink and his remaining coins were described correctly. I felt better for it. -
Nons "What crap has he bought this time?" Thread.....
Peter replied to Nonmortuus's topic in Beginners area

Finger prints you have to live with unless you get the brasso out.
