    Mint-darkened penny

    Great example
  2. The temperature switch goes round and nothing happens. It is about 10 years old and gets a lot of use. Plus modern ovens are more efficient and easier to keep clean.
  3. Peter

    Victorian Silver 3d

Many never make it out of there plush boxes whereas 3ds circulated heavily. My collection is nice back to 1900 then it became quite difficult getting Vickies in good condition.

    Wanted - 1840 Farthing 2 prong trident

It took me 25 years to find one.It is just a miss strike I will dig up a picture of one of mine Not for sale.
  5. Sometimes you get adjustment marks when the mint has used too much silver.I like history like this. The big chunky French coins 17/18 C springs to mind often scratched to remove surplus silver. The guy/gal who thought up the banknote did a fine job.Not many of those clipped. About **** years ago I did find half a fiver...my dad took it and gave me £2 10/- We feasted on Woodpecker Cider for weeks. It also reminds me of a local pub when the landlady would serve the oldest lad with 10 pints we must of been early teens. Jumpers for goal posts etc

    Verdi-Care

Reading some posts on this forum while chewing on your dinner can prove to be a choking hazard You can always rely on Peter for a bit of off-topic entertainment! I think he should be a panellist on that brand new TV series 'Shock Factor'! The real scary thing is that through Peter's eyes, it's not off-topic at all... I'm a snickers man (marathon) Mrs Peter enjoys a nut in every bite

    Want, want, WANT!

Great stuff Rob and Rickardo. I get my targets and hit them hard Currently I have a big bag of Mitchell reels to load up with line/braid,500+ coins to sell and about 100+coins to register. Just ordered a 16lb capon.....bloody big chicken for Xmas.It is now a Peter day and Mr Whiskey has just knocked on the door. Mrs Peter isn't due back until 6pm....Oh dear.

Well, there's a Christmas present for me sorted!

My mother always gives me £ which I use on coins or coin related
  9. Scott I have Montagu,. I believe it is now online on google books.(FOC) Bramha,Batty and Montagu were condensed by Peck's work. (Pecks 2nd edition in 1970) I know Colin Cooke was working on a new farthing publication before his untimely death. Colin Goode (aboutfarthings)is working on a farthing publication but Peck's work is still the bible and most complete work on all cu denominations.

    more FAKES

How did I know this coin was going to be a wreath or a Northumberland? He/she dosen't even call it a Northumberland.
  11. It will be fake but probably a lower carot gold.

    NGC Grading

You will probably get stung for import duty when the coins are returned from the US.

    another question about tokens

There was a shortage of circulating currency so traders minted their own tokens. At the same time the majority of copper coins were counterfeit.Especially in Scotland.
  14. Peter

    tokens

Tokens fit into my collection. They grade like coins and are collectable in their own right.
  15. Spink prices are EF £1450 UNC £2850 So London Coins looks like the way to go. You could put a reserve on it. Good luck

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

That isn't too bad for a silver coin. I tend to start my auctions at 99p and 95% reach a decent level.
  17. Most generous Garrett. A true thoughtful gent. One tip to preserve you coin books is a trip to Wickes where they use a heavy gauge polythene bags/sacks for their sand etc. Perfect for covering your books.
  18. Exergue is the date under Britannia There is also a type with the date in the legend.
  19. Don't suppose you have a 1933 for me
  20. Maybe a bit of Salmon fishing required give me a PM and I can tell you I almost shot the gillie on the Tay. My mate had the lease on Taymouth Castle...I shagged a pretty thing from Kenmore the (younger daughter and my mate got a dose.....oh how I laughed) Early 80's
  21. Last weekend I tried to sort out my fishing gear. I found I had 36 reels and 25 rods . Mrs Peter gave me the dagger eyes. It was touche when I muttered shoes. Has anyone else gone over the top on hobbies? It probably wasn't the best time to ask her if I can have a Lotus Elan. (Or a couple more Mrs Peters)
  22. Peter

    Advice please.

Well said Bob That is why you must always buy the coin and not the slab. A great reason for me to always buy raw and ignore TPG's and their fantasies. If you can see a cracking coin through the slab Great.
