S. & S.J. Ingley counterfeit of 3/- Bank Token 1811
Peter replied to seuk's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I do believe the copper coins/tokens of 1770+ were actually required to let the poor(er) have a relative level of commerce. A very interesting subject which deserves my attention.. -
More Coin Ticket Help Anyone?

I've just come accross this book. http://www.coinsweekly.com/en/Archive/8?&id=61&type=n (whilst looking for Spink) -
Not me. But wasn't that issue due to sending the buyer an email rather than the seller? You are right.
-
Own up. Who emailed the seller? I got in trouble for doing the same a while back.

I know what I meant -
If you did find a method of cleaning without damaging the coin you will become a millionaire.
-
Looks like it has been buried in non corrosive soil.

http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=160388 Not my cup of tea....but hey. I also think PCGS have given it a grade above GEF to AUNC. I would be supprised if CGS would grade it. -
Hi Malcy Nice find. Great soil around your way. ? I'm in Suffolk (heavy clay) which is good for your tators and bread but no good for copper. I do have the joy of the brecklands on my doorstep. The soil is sandy/dry hence some great coins are recovered. I've just had shingle delivered for fence/patio/french drains etc and have already found musket balls/devils toe nails. Great fun.

You could not make this up.

I think the answer to the colour is "a metal detecting find"

Scanning And Photography
Peter replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Both images are great (against my ebay standard attempts) I bought that little HK gizzmo but have yet to unpack it.(looks like a winner for stamps, ciggie cards and banknotes) but I was hoping for some dramatic results from other members with coins. I tend to take on too much and never be happy and so have to do it all again (am I the only one...is this OCD?) BTW my MG is 99% concours and Mr Peter has given me the green light for a decent motorbike. I started picturing my collection in a logical fashion last Xmas.... Can't wait to continue -
Let the slabbing fraternity get on with it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1954-NGC-MS-66-RD-ONE-FARTHING-GREAT-BRITAIN-/151163662160?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item23320e6f50

Brg Next you will be telling us Catherine Zeta Jones is posing for you holding some coins (gloved). I saw some pictures of her at 44 and she is still gorgeous beyond belief. You can't scan her. -

I'd say no as, if the plan is to sell it, you could have problems and, if it's for your own pleasure, can you really kid yourself...you have the coin????Edit: from the perspective of over-cooking the image I mean...and that's hard to avoid, to discipline yourself too! Stuart I have bought many coins on a picture and when received I have been pleasantly surprised. Some ebay sellers and dealers pictures are rubbish. This I have taken to my advantage.(especially in years gone by). On Ebay Lucido is a classic example where punters lap up his coins as they are cleverly pictured.(perched on a finger at an angle) Grades are sometimes clearly over stepped but coins still sell for a premium. If you picture a farthing blown up to dinner plate size (aka Dave ) the buyer will no doubt love his 22mm copper disc when it arrives...horses for courses. -

Surely we all want to have a coin looking its best for selling or ones personal enjoyment.? -
Nice Error For The Farthing Boys.

He might pull in a sucker....but the price is what a punter is willing to pay, good luck to him. Ebay's audience should prove a better shop window than an Aussie auction house. -

Thanks for the heads up. Errors are not my area of interest. I suspect this will end up in the US. -
I bought 3 direct from the Royal mint, £60 (face) plus £12 shipping. Was your note meant to imply that we couldn't order them in the USA? Mine arrived early last week (Nov 5 I believe). The initial offer / advert was UK only. Obviously the market for mint products is quite suppressed in the UK. I did order 3 £60 for £60 is a no brainer. There are apparently 2 types identified already (2 marks on the butt of the horse & clear butt)....see coincomm. BTW I am pleased with mine. Got my 3 too, agreed it surely is a no-lose situation ... surely there is no way you would get less than £20 for one in the future (unless sold for £23 on eBay), and they were free postage ... I explained to my daughters that they were currency and could be spent...Mrs Peter twitched her variables.

You lost me there, Peter! StuartI thought the thread was started by Richard (TG) (your avatars are similar) PS I've just sold your boat to an American so please advise me your bank details to enable funds transfer. how much have we made?Enough to let you buy another boat on a far canal.

Apart from monthlies all my coin mags have met their end in the recycling bin. I'm sure all the monthlies could easily be shifted at a fair.I certainly would fill my boots up (and my back seat)
