  2. Roll up Roll up Get your lovely halfcrown. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GB-George-III-Halfcrown-Coin-1819-Fair-condition-with-date-letters-visable-/360737530475?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item53fda1e26b
  3. Mrs Peter restricts my visits. I do prefer the football season as the football can be listened to on the way home. Also in the summer after wearing my ruck sack for 3+ hours I get wetter than an otters pocket.
  4. Just had a peep at Kentcoins and it seems mainly low grade.
  5. Great coins Declan. I do a quick circuit and then delve deeply. I love your 1799 1/2d

    New Help!

First come first served on the £20 coin. Before you attempt making purchases get some books. I would suggest Collectors coins GB which is about £5. Have a look at Ebay and decide what you like(beware of the rubbish on there) The second book would be the Standard guide to grading British coins. The last tip at this stage is buy the best you can afford. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
  7. Matt England's striking history would be an excellent purchase as it illustrates the different classes and mint id's.it is also a bargain and written in an interesting manner.
  8. Ouch An expensive lesson. I echo Stuarts (Coinery) question on purchase history.
  9. Bob I hope tthis helps. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=1940+penny+single+exurge&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&biw=1366&bih=643&bvm=pv.xjs.s.en_US.jkEW54nYU50.O&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=nh8uUqeCN6jH7AbMkIDAAg#facrc=_&imgrc=3WxvdsaegQ70iM%3A%3BmEzO7eJPgcQ0KM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk%252Fpics%252Fg6%252F1d%252F1d40e.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk%252Fpenny.html%3B401%3B397 Just tap on the fIrst image.
  10. Firstly there are so many micro varieties in pre 1775 1/4d's. You could log it with Colin of aboutfarthings. I will check my 35's.
  11. Plenty of thrupenny bits on the beaches go round and oil these.
  12. Super dooper coin
  13. Not in my experience.
  14. As a good contributor to the forum maybe I can sort something out for you.
  15. I have convinced myself to get three of these (free recorded postage) .999 silver 1/2 a troy ounce 27mm dia with a mintage of 250,000 http://www.royalmint.com/shop/UK_2013_20_pound_for_20_pound_Fine_Silver_Coin_George_and_the_Dragon They are being released 31/10/2013. The fact they are UK only our North American/Aussie buddies will be gagging for them.
  16. BU copper/bronze seems to be a haven for carbon spots. As a young lad I bought a lot of BU coins from coin monthly. Most of these have toned to red/brown.I haven't a problem with this and thankfully no carbon spots. Anything with verdigris tends to go out of my collection (apart from a1864 copper 1/4d )
  17. With processed food you don't know what you get. We have just had a scenario of horse being found in beef burgers (even the better brands) and yet in France horse is available everywhere. At least with Haggis you know what you are buying. A couple of slugs of Irish malt with Haggis, neeps and tatties whilst looking at my Edward 1 coins is a nice way to spend a cold January evening. 30-15 Dave
  18. I've just put my Spink 2010 in the loft.
  19. I had to have an Ashmore coin for my collection. Some are excellent' A piece of our numismatic history.
  20. You are correct with your assumptions, most of the VAM's are blob's die cracks, and minor stuff...all of which are not listed in the Redbook. The real varieties...0 over CC, 7 over 6, Dbl Die, 80 over 79, etc have separate listing and pricing in the Redbook. Some dealers do expect more for a coin, with a VAM number, but I am not one of those people. I would not pay a premium for a VAM coin! BTW...I am going to be in my Father's Family homeland (Scotland) in late September. Going to Glasgow, Laggan, Airth/Falkirk, and Edinburgh (also England and Wales). BTW...what is haggis? Is it any good? Ha,Ha! We are going to have a dinner in Edinburgh that has haggis on the menu! We are on a Trafalger tour. Haggis is a once a year meal for me at most and I wouldn't bother having it in a restaurant.Good butchers make their own and it's easy to cook. Haggis is all the scraps (heart etc and pearl barley)When put this into an intestine it comes alive.!!!! Their are some special ones that live on heather. You just have to pluck them and snip off the wings. Try battered mars bars or pizza and blacken your teeth so you fit in.
  21. I noticed the London Coins auction is now also posted on www.the-saleroom.com, although it's still not an online auction. I wonder if this may mean they plan on eventually making their auctions available online. I hope so because a journey to Bracknell on a Saturday would be a nightmare for me.I would prefer to bid live as such. It would also be more convenient for our US buddies.
  22. I've been put on a temporary stop UNTIL I shift a large quantity of coins not required which Mrs Peter stumbled across .
  23. How ever could you spot that.? Michael Gouby must have the patience of a saint and an unlimited stock of 1898's. A few years back I did my daughters a tray each of 1D's back to 1895. I will have to check these.
  24. I will take your 1923 off you
  25. When a MS65 books at $750 there is a danger.You would have to trust PCG'S expertese.
