  1. Declan If you sell it make sure it is properly described.(less lacquer)
  2. They are quite common and as yet not noticed by many dealers.(Even auction houses) Not a fantastic variety by any stretch but unmistakeable. I have been looking for a GEF+ for a while but I'm sure collectors without a clue are also after any 1863 being it a key date. A nice little variety to search for at a fair buried beneath those shiney pennies.
  3. You couldn't make this up. BTW NVF 1875H about £2 NVF 1875sd about £35
  4. Hi Bob The split R was normal around this period. 1875 (ld) normal R 1875 (sd) split R. I've just checked Colins site (aboutfarthings)and he has the split R as normal. In Colin Cookes 1/4d catalogue it notes all farthings 1875-78 are split R apart from LD 1875 and the Heaton mints.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Further to Clives post. How about this for the lady in your life. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/George-V-Farthing-enamaled-Silver-Pendant-1910-/221297265634?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3386584be2
  6. Neil I can't recall seeing any AT/rainbow(call it what you like) coins in your catalogues/online site/auctions ETC. I would love to see a before and after "special recipe". We are all well aware of some of the low ball cleaners in the UK collecting fraternity (they do catch a few newbies) Although I'm not aware of any Rainbow coin sellers. I would love Coin News to pick up on this.
  7. I've just read the PCGS thread. The back slapping is hilarious. 15 years ago I assume AT was taking its first tentative steps. Anyone want a lemming posing pouch? I think I have sourced plenty of fur. Extra large and small boys sizes are available to suit all the forum's members
  8. I've just told it as I see it. Debate can't be a bad thing. I'm just glad in the UK this stuff is just not acceptable to 99% of collectors. Please tell me if you have ever seen a reputable UK dealer auction or list this sort of thing.

    Good Evening

That is why the forum has been sleepy. Ask away...there are no stupid questions. If you sort them into denomination then date order you can feed us scraps. BTW nice goal from Gerrard.

    Newbie.

Welcome Jim No need to shout. There are a few Peck nrs for this date (and varieties not attributed) The pre 1860> copper 1d's are IMO a beautiful coin. There are a couple of bank account hitters.A nice series.
  11. I was looking for info on heated rear window switches and relays for my MG (i bought a hardtop for it over the weekend). There was a certain poster on a MG forum named Christopher Heinrich Perkins.....I wonder. Thanks for the tips you left Chris. It seems you cannot hide with the modern technology at our finger tips.(Facebook, forums ETC)

    Coin Robbery

Call of nature maybe? I don't think I've ever been to a pub by myself or not meeting anyone there. Did the thieves follow Lloyd from the fair? I've always felt safe at the Midlands (I wouldn't relish the tube in London) I have witnessed dealers helping each other to load up stock after fair's. Maybe it is time to think of installing CCTV on vehicles transporting valuable items. I watched an insurance fraud documentary recently which proved these systems worked well.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Maybe I'm just unlucky with the Spink's guide then as, whenever I see something at auction that I really want, just for me, which isn't often, it always sails WAY over the Spink guide! Spink price the commonest types. Trouble is if you really like something several others will too.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Oh Dear Another bit of pewter. I emailed the seller 6 days ago. Last time I emailed a buyer of a dodgy coin ebay sent me a warning. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1562-SILVER-ELIZABETH-SIXPENCE-MILLED-COIN-ORIGINAL-/390671525013?ViewItem=&ssPageName=ADME%3AX%3AAAQ%3AGB%3A1123&item=390671525013&nma=true&si=bITEbbYdlASa1xOdfU3Ub2O0L2A%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

    Coin Photography - Best Camera

Most modern Macro camera's will produce a good result with steadiness and good lighting. Several good threads can be found on Coincommunity.com I have a couple of Nikon Dslr's without macro lenses and a £30 Cannon powershot A800 pocket camera (bought on recommendation at coincomm.) I think Richard's photographs are excellent.

    Coin Robbery

If they were stolen to order I think they might disappear into the either. It really must be a show stopper when something like this happens.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

On the other hand, while I wouldn't pay £424 either, there is a phenomenal difference in scarcity between VF (or sub-EF) examples, and genuine EF or better. My own example (MUST upgrade!) is definitely sub-EF : 1836 halfc obv.jpg Nice coin Peck Looks OK to me for a type collection. I do like those 6d's Actually I do like this design.I believe I have a couple of low grade examples. One day I would like to move these on and get a quality 35.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

It doesn't looked dipped.I quite like the tone. I wouldn't pay Spinks EF £424 (considering VF is £85)
  19. Looks a nice van Bob.(I thought RV's killed these off in the US) You need the pulling vehicle to match.
  20. I also have an interest in antiques, fossils, fishing,Ipswich Town fc,DIY and my newly acquired MGTF.(Mrs Peter is taking an unhealthy interest in this) Just the motorbike to go now. Detecting is also an interest but getting permission on new sites is getting harder.
  21. Win some lose some. That's life. It is the ones you miss and the benefit of hindsight that keeps you going. With varieties in virgin territories you have to to define your own. Stuart...pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) time.
  22. I wonder how many times we all bid against each other on ebay?
  23. You can always bluff, double bluff and treble bluff each other & still get skinned alive. It is best to tap into the auctioneer.
