  1. Hi, They measure 20.19mm & 20.20mm. I don't have a ordinary farthing to compare them to. Looking for a magnet now Jon
  2. Hi, A friend of mine has two apparently cupro-nickle 1949 George VI farthings, the type with a wren on the reverse. The coins don't appear to be plated. I can't find them in my spink guide can anyone help ID them? Thanks, Jon
  3. Hi, Here they are what do you reckon? One weighs 2.84g the other 2.76 if that helps. Jon
  4. Hi, He has had them since he was a kid when he used to collect a few coins. He can't rememeber exactly where they came from. He' is bringing them into to work tonight so I'll scan them and upload the pics so you can see them for yourself and make your own minds up as I'm no expert. Regards Jon

Hi, Thanks very much for the info! Jon
  6. Hi, I found this coin yesterday with my metal detector. I think it is an Edward the Confessor Penny Spink 1176. Can you give me an Idea of how the damage will affect the value? I need to know to inform the landowner (I don't want to sell it) Thanks, Jon

    Confessor Penny

Hi, The coin has been identified as from the Bristol mint the reverse legend reads GODWINE ON BRIC. In my Spink book has a seperate price list for coins from individual mints. Does the mint affect the value of my coin? Regards, Jon

Thanks, The coin weighs 1g so I suppose that makes it the 18 grain coin. Jon

  11. Hi, I would like to purchase a good grade Edward the Confessor silver penny. Can anyone advise me where I should look? Regards, Jon
  12. Hi, This is another one of my detector finds. Can anyone tell me which it is exactly I think its an Edward I Penny 1413 10cf4 am I right? When was it minted? Thanks in advance. Jon
  13. It's Edward II then, didn't he have an unfortunate encounter wit a red hot poker?
  14. Hi, I just wondered if any one knew what the dots of the reverse of a lot of hammered coins represent typically 12 on a penny, 3 in each quater of the cross, any ideas? Jon
  15. Thats very interesting, thanks! Jon
  16. Hi, I just wondered how a value of a coin is affected by clipping. A coin that is clipped could still be in a very fine condition detail wise. Does the clipping reduce the grade or is it taken into account seperately? Cheers, Jon.
  17. Hi, I was wondering, are copper coins with an even, dark green patina desirable to collectors or not? Regards, Jon
  18. Hi, This is a 1697 William III Sixpence minted in Bristol that I found with my metal detector yesterday. If you look on the obverse there is a flaw in the field between the bottom and left hand shields. It looks like it was minted this way can anyone tell me what causes this. Cheers, Jon.
  19. Hi, Very interesting, thanks for such an informative replies. Sorry, yes the REVERSE of the coin has a fault. I think Sylvester is right, I can see now that the flaw mirrors the outline of the bust on the other side. Yes it was a good find althougth a 1696 would have been even better! I found it just outside Bristol so it hasn't travelled far, I don't think it can have been in circulation long before it was lost due to the condition. It came out of the ground shining I only had to wash it off with water before I scanned it. I wonder if the owner knew they'd lost it? Cheers, Jon
  20. Hi, Have a look at the attached photo below the bust the letters "JP" are stamped, can any one tell me why this might be done? Regards, Jon
  21. Thanks, I'll pass on the bad news! Jon
  22. Hi This coin belongs to a friend, he says some of the 1877 pennies are rare but can't tell if this is one of them. Can you help, sorry the pictures were as good as I could manage. Cheers, Jon.

    Cheap hammered?

Here is my offering, one of my latest detector finds, its a cut half Henry II Tealby Penny class A or B. Is half a coin worth half the price of a whole one? Cheers, Jon
