What are your best coins?
Sylvester replied to Half Penny Jon's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Whilst we are on this facing thing. You also realise that Charles II to William and Mary also had the base metal portraits facing the opposite way to their precous metal coinage portraits. Just compare some Charles II coins to see that. Whilst we are on about farthings i'm wondering whether i should drop my farthing (one of only three in my collection) into this discussion? -
That Edward VII one looks pretty good. (next to the Charles one)

it came in a bag of junk silver from ebay, most were alright, a few had been dipped and had etchy surfaces, a small handfull looked like this one. The one above was the third worst, i gave the other two away in a trade. I still have the one pictured, and two that are 3 quarters of the way there.

Hey i'm the proud owner of that beast.

Of all the coins i've had the pleasure of having owned (or nearly owning, had cash about to buy, but didn't get round to it cos something else caught my eye before i handed it over) i must admit i've never had a cartwheel twopence.

I'm thing of selling the example i have, i am led to believe like most Jersey coins it has a low mintage. But does anyone know how many were struck? Also what's it's catalogue value? (i don't want to over price or underprice it)
-
i don't, i call Britain; England, Scotland and Wales... the rest are islands of the UK, that includes Lundy.
-
i've checked that site out already, it was my first port of call! I'm a purist i'm afraid, if it ain't on the main land then it ain't British. (that goes for Ireland too).
-
did i mention it was UNC?
-
i hope that the colour inversion he's got on there and that's not the real colour of the coin... I dunno what he means by 'wonderful condition' but i guess he means as 'wonderful' considering it as a wreck find... which i am inclined to agree http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...7&category=4399

that's how i say it.

Oh god yeah! I showed the whole 2003 set to my Mum and she actually liked it - untrained eyes, I tell ya! it's only because they haven't seen all the good stuff out there... once someone's seen a gothic crown that's pretty much destroyed every other crown in existence's chance of being considered the best. -

you'll have your suit ready, ah now we're getting to the bottom of it, i'll put in a good word for you! -
Tell that to the Maria Theresa collectors! Seriously though i dunno, hadn't thought about it but i should imagine it will be updated, just like the US flag everytime a new state gets added. Could create some interesting errors that could if someone can't count.

I've seen worse... apart from the Golden Dollar and the Jeff nickel which i can't stand. (especially the latter) But there was one from the Netherlands somewhere that was really really bad! (in modern art style) the king on the front looked like he had leprosy. -
I knew he was a high flyer in the numismatic world! I'm thinking of joining EW myself, just to check it out even though errors aren't exactly my scene.
